Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Entrance Awards

Jennifer Margaret Francis Memorial Award

A monetary award payable over 4 years. This award may be held by the student throughout the DVM program providing both financial need continues and academic performance is maintained. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by September 30.

Qualifications: Student from the Ottawa/Carleton region entering semester 1 of the DVM program in 1994.
Amount: $6,000 every four years.

Grey County Cattlemen's Association Entrance Award
Qualifications: Student from Grey County entering semester 1 of the DVM program with the highest average in the courses attempted after admission to the Pre-veterinary Year. Preference will be given to a student who has some experience in large animal practice.
Amount: $100.

Elaine Harris Memorial Scholarship

Family and friends of Elaine Harris, who in her short lifetime demonstrated exemplary care and love for all animals, have established a memorial scholarship.

Qualifications: Student entering semester 1 of the DVM program. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic performance. Preference will be given to the student who has graduated from a program in Animal Health and/or Veterinary Technology.
Amount: $500.

Northern Ontario Veterinary Assn. Scholarship
Qualifications: Student registered in semester 1 of the DVM program who attains high standing in the competition for admission to the Pre-veterinary year. Preference will be given to students from Northern Ontario.
Amount: $500.

Quinte District Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship
Qualifications: Student entering semester 1 of the DVM program with the highest average in the Pre-veterinary year who is a resident of Lennox and Addington, Prince Edward, Hastings or Northumberland Counties.
Amount: $100.

In-Course Awards

Ayerst Case Report Awards
Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 8 of the DVM program. The recipients will be selected on the basis of the quality of the case report required for completion of course 93-490 Veterinary Externship. One award will be given for a companion animal report and the other for production animal species, namely swine, beef or dairy. The case report must be submitted to the coordinator of the externship course by the end of semester 7.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Two awards of $500 annually.

AAEP/Frank J. Milne Memorial Award

The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) donates this award in memory of Dr. Frank J. Milne, an OVC faculty member from 1953-1984. Dr. Milne was President of the AAEP in 1971, and Editor of the annual convention Proceedings Book from 1960-1988.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program with the highest grade in course 93-445 Equine Medicine and Surgery. Preference will be given to the student who demonstrated an interest in equine practice.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $500 annually.

American Animal Hospital Association Prize
Qualifications: Student completing semester 8 of the DVM program with the highest clinical proficiency in small animal medicine and surgery.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $250, one year's free membership to the Association, a plaque and a commendation, announced in the AAHA journal.

Ames Scholarship

Presented by Miles Laboratories Limited of Rexdale, Ontario.

Qualifications: Student who has completed the 2nd semester of the DVM program selected on the basis of proficiency in veterinary clinical biochemistry.
Semester: 2.
Amount: $150.

Auxiliary to Ontario Veterinarians Award

Endowed by the Auxiliary to Ontario Veterinarians, supporting the profession from 1946 to 1990.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 4 and who has demonstrated the greatest improvement in academic performance between years 1 and 2 of the DVM program.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $200.

Auxiliary to Ontario Veterinarians Bursary

Qualifications: Undergraduate veterinary students who have a record of satisfactory academic performance and who have demonstrated need of financial assistance.

Presented by Ayerst Laboratories, Montreal.

Qualifications: Student completing the 8th semester of the DVM program, for proficiency in preventive medicine.

Amount: $750.

Charles Baker Memorial Prize

Presented by Dr. J.M. Baker of Meaford in memory of Dr. Charles Baker, OVC '23.

Qualifications: Student from the province of Quebec having the highest relative class standing in any of the semesters 2, 4 or 6 of the DVM program.
Semester: 2, 4, 6.
Amount: $200.

Bambi Ann Barrett-Dagenais Memorial Bursary

Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 5 of the DVM program. The recipients will have demonstrated a need of financial assistance and an interest in pursuing a career in companion animal practice.
Semester: 5.
Amount: $1,000 annually.

Beloved Friends Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program and who has demonstrated kindness and care in the treatment of animals in the medicine and surgery clinics.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $300.

Dr. Jonathan Bloom (OVC '93) Ambassadorial Scholarship

Jonathan Bloom (OVC '93) and his family have endowed an award for graduating students in the DVM program who have completed an approved elective experience outside the institution during their senior year. Apply to the OVC Awards Committee by April 30.

Qualifications: The recipient will be selected on the basis of the evaluation of performance by the elective host and on the manner in which the Ontario Veterinary College and the profession were represented. Preference will be given to the student who has demonstrated initiative and motivation in a non-traditional elective experience in veterinary medicine.
Amount: $400 annually.

Boehringer Ingelheim Scholarship
Qualifications: Student completing semester 6 of the DVM program with the highest academic standing in Health Management for Ruminants.

Amount: $350 annually.

Burlington Kennel and Obedience Club Scholarship
Qualifications: Student with the highest grade in Clinical Medicine 1.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $400.

CALAM Case Report Award

An award by the Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Medicine (CALAM). Submit reports to the Dean's Office before February 15.

Qualifications: Student in a Canadian Veterinary College who has submitted the best case report concerning laboratory animals. The case report will be judged on the basis of scientific content, relevance to the field of laboratory animal medicine and quality of the manuscript. The case report must follow the format for publication in the Canadian Veterinary Journal.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: $200 and a plaque are donated annually.

Canadian Charolais Bursary

Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Student in the DVM program on the basis of demonstrated financial need.

Canadian Kennel Club Bursaries

The Canadian Kennel Club provides funds for a limited number of bursaries to assist students in the DVM program. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Plaque
Qualifications: The recipient will be elected by the class on the basis of leadership, scholarship, and sportsmanship.

Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship
Qualifications: The recipient will be elected by a class vote on the basis of leadership, achievement in student affairs and academic performance.
Semester: 6.

Molly Carrington Memorial Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 and who has demonstrated a high standard of case care and compassion for his/her patients.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $500.

Ciba Scholarship

Donated by the Ciba Animal Health Division.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 4 of the DVM program with the highest grade in the small animal parasitology component of the course 73-356 Veterinary Parasitology.

Central Veterinary Student Association Bursary

Apply to the OVC Dean's Office.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the DVM program who have demonstrated need of financial assistant. Preference will be given to applicants who have been active in student affairs at the College.
Amount: $400 bursary.

College of Veterinarians of Ontario
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program and has been active in college or university affairs.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $500.

Coopers Agropharm Inc. Prizes
Qualifications: Students completing the 8th semester of the DVM program. One student will be selected on the basis of proficiency in parasitology, and the second on the basis of proficiency in clinical pathology.

Amount: Two prizes of $350.

Grant and Muriel Crittenden Bursaries

The bursaries are awarded at the beginning of the Winter semester. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Dr. R.C. Croucher Bursary

Ross C. Croucher, OVC '50, has made provision for an annual bursary. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Student in the DVM program exhibiting financial need associated with his/her academic studies.

Dorothea Daniell-Jenkins Memorial Scholarship

Friends, family and fellow dog fanciers have established a scholarship in memory of Dorothea Daniell-Jenkins, a respected judge and Terrier breeder.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program and who is judged to be the most proficient in small animal medicine and surgery, based on academic performance in semesters 5 and 6 and a companion animal externship.

Howard N.B. Dorfman Scholarship

The scholarship is given by the family in memory of Howard N.B. Dorfman, OVC '78.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program. The prize is given for outstanding achievement in clinical or investigative aspects of veterinary neurology.

Erie Veterinary Assn./OVMA Herd Health & Population Medicine Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program with the highest average in Health Management calculated on the basis of grades in courses 93-482 Independent Study in Health Management and 93-485 Health Management.

Amount: $500 and an engraved plaque.

Dr. Francis J. Fitzgerald Memorial Bursaries

Family, friends, colleagues and clients of Dr. Francis J. Fitzgerald (OVC '37) have established memorial bursaries to honour his commitment to veterinary medicine. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Established by the colleagues and friends of Prof. J.P.W. Gilman, a teacher of Histology at OVC from 1945 to 1975.

Betty Goldhart Scholarships in Medical Genetics
Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 2 of the DVM program who have received the first and second highest marks in Veterinary Medical Genetics.

Sigmund Samuel Goodman Memorial Bursary

Friends and family of Sigmund Samuel Goodman, humanist and lover of animals, have endowed funds for a memorial bursary. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Dr. M. Adrian Gross Memorial Bursary

Established by family, friends and colleagues of Dr. M. Adrian Gross (OVC '54), a respected veterinarian and a valued employee of the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: The recipient will be selected on the basis of the highest average calculated using the grades in Veterinary Pharmacology (93-327 and 93-352) and Toxicology (93-431).

Holstein Association of Canada Prize
Qualifications: Student who has the highest standing in bovine medicine based on Clinical Medicine II and III, rotations in Large Animal Clinics and Health Management and the examinations in Health Management.

Intervet Canada Poultry Health Management Prize
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 4 of the Veterinary program with the highest grade in course 93-383 Avian Diseases/Health Management.

Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc. Award

Award consists of a one week study visit to the Janssen International research facility in Beerse, Belgium.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program and who has been elected by classmates as the person most likely to bring credit to the profession through the practice of Veterinary Medicine
Amount: One week study visit in Beerse, Belgium.

Dr. Richard J. Ketchell (OVC '51) Memorial Bursary

Donated by the family of Dr. Richard J. Ketchell (OVC '51) in gratitude for a long and fulfilling career in veterinary medicine, as a result of his admission to the Ontario Veterinary College as an overseas applicant. Recipient(s) will be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic performance. Preference will be given to students from Commonwealth countries. Apply to the OVC Dean's Office.

Kievit Memorial Scholarship in Surgery

The class of '66 presents this scholarship in memory of T.M. Kievit, a member of the class.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 6 of the DVM program and who are the most proficient in small animal medicine and surgery.

Lady Glencora Bursaries

Qualifications: Students in semesters 6, 7, 8 of the DVM program who have demonstrated need of financial assistance. Preference will be given to students who have indicated an interest in pursuing a career in companion animals.

Dr. Jack Lange Memorial Scholarship

Family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Jack Lange, (OVC '71), have established a memorial scholarship to recognize his contributions to the equine industry, the mutual respect he shared with his clients, and his zest for life.

Qualifications: Awarded to a student for the best externship case report dealing with an equine clinical condition and who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program.
Amount: $500.

The Elaine Laurin Awards

Three continuing awards have been established by Mrs. Elaine Laurin, because of her compassion for animals, her long standing interest in veterinary medicine and her desire to help talented but financially constrained veterinary students. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by September 30, 1995.

Qualifications: Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance and demonstrated financial need. The three recipients chosen in 1995 will continue to receive awards each year through to completion of the DVM program, provided they have achieved, on entry to DVM years 1, 2, 3 and 4 averages of at least 80% and demonstrate continued need of substantial financial assistance.
Amount: Three continuing awards of $5,000 per annum for students who have been admitted to the Pre-veterinary year and who continue through to completion of the 4-year DVM program.

Dr. Jim Lennox Bursary

Hill's Pet Products have established a bursary to honour Dr. Jim Lennox (OVC '51), a friend to veterinarians and a respected teacher at the Ontario Veterinary College (1965-1980). Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Undergraduate students enrolled in the DVM program who have demonstrated need of financial assistance.

Dr. John Lindner Award

Kingsdale Animal Hospital and the family of Dr. John Lindner, OVC '73, an esteemed companion animal practitioner and humanitarian, donate this annual award.

Qualifications: For students who have completed semester 2 of the DVM program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance in the anatomy components of courses in semesters 1 and 2.
Amount: $500.

Katherine Elizabeth Long DVM Memorial Scholarship
Qualifications: Student completing semester 8 of the DVM program who strives most consistently to apply the highest standards of veterinary knowledge and skill while showing concern for the animal's comfort and welfare.

Andrew Leslie MacNabb Prize

This prize is sponsored by the OVC Alumni Association.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program who is most proficient in veterinary public health.

Awarded by colleagues and friends of Dr. Mann an Embryology teacher from 1954-1987.

Charles Duncan McGilvray Prize

OVC '41 presents the prize in memory of Dr. C.D. McGilvray, Principal of the Ontario Veterinary College, 1918-45.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program who by scholarship, leadership, personality, character, and interest has made a worthy contribution to the College.

Dr. D.J. McLellan Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program who has received the highest standing in the courses in which Equine Medicine and Surgery are taught.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $1,000 annually.

Dr. Neal Mendelson Memorial Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program, and who is the most proficient in equine studies based on grades in courses 93-445 Equine Medicine and Surgery and 93-484 Large Animal Clinic rotations.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Approximately $200.

Dr. Frank J. Milne Memorial Award

The family and friends of Dr. Frank J. Milne, an inspiring teacher and respected faculty member at the Ontario Veterinary College from 1953 to1984, have established this memorial award.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 8 of the DVM program. The recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated skills in Large Animal Surgery and high academic standing in courses dealing with the equine species.

Dr. Roy S. Moore Memorial Award

Family, friends, professional colleagues and associates who care for laboratory animals have donated an award in memory of Dr. Roy S. Moore (OVC '54), a veterinarian who dedicated his career to the promotion of humane laboratory animal care.

Qualifications: The recipient will be selected on the basis of the final grade in course 73-260, Introduction to Laboratory Animal Care and Management, and performance in the animal care laboratories.
Amount: $200.

MTC Pharmaceutical Health Management Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 4 with the highest average in courses dealing with Epidemiology and Economics.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $500.

MTC Pharmaceuticals Scholarship
Qualifications: Third year student who achieves the highest average on the basis of marks in Clinical Medicine II and III, Surgical Exercises I and II, and overall average in semesters 5 and 6.

Amount: $500 annually.

Dr. A. Noel Smith Memorial Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program with high academic standing. The recipient must be a resident of Oakville or the Regional Municipality of Halton and must have made a contribution to humane activities during the course of studies.

Ontario Association of Equine Practitioners Bursary

Apply to the Assistant Dean, OVC.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the DVM program who have a record of satisfactory academic performance and demonstrated need of financial assistance. Preference will be given to students who are members of the Equine Club and committed to student organized activities in the field of equine veterinary medicine.
Amount: $500 annually.

Ontario Pork Producers' Marketing Board Prize
Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 8 of the DVM program. The recipient will be the most proficient in the study of swine diseases and the health management and welfare of swine.
Semester: 8.

OTS Delta Club Scholarship
Qualifications: The recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement and contribution to Club affairs.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 8 of the DVM program with the highest relative class standing over the final year.

OVC Alumni Association Travel Fellowship

The fellowship supports programs at institutions outside Canada between semester 6 and 7. Application must be made to the OVC Awards Committee by the end of semester 5. The application must include a letter of reference from at least one instructor, a letter of intent, a resume and a letter indicating that satisfactory arrangements for the program have been made. The recipient must have high academic standing, leadership, integrity, a pleasing personality and good communication skills.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program.

Amount: $1,500.

Ontario Association of Bovine Practitioners' Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program and who has demonstrated exceptional proficiency in bovine herd health and an interest in bovine practice based on performance in 93-482 Independent Study in Health Management and 93-485 Health Management.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $250.

Ontario Veterinary Medical Association's Animal Behaviour and Welfare Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 2 of the DVM program with the highest average in the course Animal Behaviour and Welfare.
Semester: 2.
Amount: $250.

Ottawa/Carleton 1983 International Ploughing Match Scholarship

Apply to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs by April 1.

Qualifications: Student from the Ottawa/Carleton region who has completed semester 2 of the DVM program and who has a cumulative average of 70% (minimum) standing in semesters 1 and 2. Participation in extracurricular activities and financial need will be considered.
Semester: 2.
Amount: $1,000.

Pfizer Scholarship
Qualifications: One student who has completed semester 4 and one student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program. Both recipients will be elected by their classmates on the basis of scholarship and leadership.
Semester: 4 and 6.
Amount: Two awards of $500.

James and Marjorie Pinkney Studentship Research Award

This award was established by Dr. R. James Pinkney, a distinguished alumnus of OVC '37. Dr. Pinkney was a verterinary practitioner in Cooksville for over forty years and received numerous awards for sportsmanship in agricultural competition and leadership in agriculture. The award will enable an OVC undergraduate student in years 1, 2, or 3 to pursue, during the summer months, a research project related to the health and welfare of animals. Students taking part in the year 3 externship program may receive a portion of the award for the non-externship portion of the summer. Applications must be submitted by the candidates and their supervising faculty members to the OVC Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, by March 15. The OVC Awards Committee will select the recipient by May 1.

Quinte Animal Welfare Bursary

This bursary has been established by Quinte Animal Welfare Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the protection of animals against unnecessary suffering or cruelty. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Students in the DVM program who have a record of satisfactory academic performance and have a demonstrated need of financial assistance. Preference will be given to residents of Lennox and Addington, Prince Edward, Hastings or Northumberland Counties.
Amount: $1,000 annually.

Dr. George Rankin Memorial Equine Scholarship

Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC, with resume and supporting letters by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 with a 70% average and has demonstrated an interest and aptitude in equine medicine and surgery.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $1,000.

Major James Rattray Proficiency Prizes
Qualifications: Students who have completed semesters 2, 4 and 6 with the second highest class standing.
Semester: 2, 4, 6.

Rhone Merieux Award of Merit
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program and who is judged to be the most proficient in small animal medicine with particular emphasis on fluid therapy.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Commemorative plaque and a prize of $500 annually.

Rhone Merieux Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 4 of the DVM program and who is judged to be the most proficient in Pharmacology based on academic performance in 93-327, Veterinary Pharmacology.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $200 scholarship and a commemorative plaque annually.

Peter Rich Continuing Bursary

Established by the Jean Rich Foundation. Apply to the OVC Awards Committee, c/o OVC Dean's Office.

Qualifications: Students entering the Pre-veterinary year with a demonstrable need of substantial financial assistance.
Amount: The bursary fund will provide the recipient in the DVM program with $5,000 per annum for five years, from the Pre-veterinary year through to graduation.

Robinson Memorial Bursary

Donated by family, friends and colleagues in memory of Dr. Gerry Robinson who was a popular teacher and exemplary scientist in the Department of Biomedial Sciences at the Ontario Veterinary College. (1957-1992). Apply to the Assistant Dean, OVC.

Qualifications: Student will have a record of satisfactory academic performance and demonstrated need of financial assistance.
Amount: $250 bursary for students enrolled in the DVM program.

Dr. C. K. "Chuck" Roe Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been endowed by the Class of OVC '60, together with family, friends and colleagues of Dr. "Chuck" Roe (OVC '50), a respected faculty member of the Ontario Veterinary College and exemplary humanitarian.

Qualifications: Undergraduate student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program with the highest grade in course 93-414 Health Management for Swine. The recipient's participation in college and other extracurricular activities will also be considered.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $400 annually.

Rogar/STB Company Prizes

Presented by Rogar/STB Company of Canada.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 8 of the DVM program. The first prize is based on proficiency in large animal medicine, and the second on proficiency in small animal surgery.
Semester: 8.
Amount: 2 prizes of $150 and $100.

Royal Canadian Army Veterinary Corps Prize

Applicants must submit a plan for the work/study visit and a letter from the host by April 1. Selection will be based on the merit of the proposal and academic performance.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 4 of the veterinary program and is planning a work/study visit to an equine facility during the summer between 2nd and 3rd year. In keeping with the original terms of the award, the care and welfare of horses should be a significant component of the proposal.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $250.

Dr. Jean Rumney Memorial Scholarship

Presented by the Hamilton Dog Obedience Club Incorporated.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 4 of the DVM program, and who rank first and second in the small animal portions of Clinical Medicine courses 93-385 Introduction to Medicine and 93-386 Clinical Medicine I.
Semester: 4.
Amount: 2 scholarships of $600 and $400.

Saunders Prizes

Provided by the W.B. Saunders Company Canada Limited.

Qualifications: Students who are most proficient in medical and surgical exercises, small and large animals respectively.
Semester: 6.
Amount: A textbook in small animal medicine and large animal medicine.

F.W. Schofield Prize

This prize is presented from a fund established by Dr. F.W. Schofield with contributions from the Canadian Association of Veterinary Pathologists and the late Dr. H.T. Batt.

Qualifications: Student who ranks the highest in Pathology.
Semester: 8.
Amount: A book.

Norman W. Simmons Memorial Award
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the DVM program with the highest grade in course 93-407 Diseases of Non-Domestic Animals.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $150.

Andrew Smith Memorial Medal

A medal in memory of the late Andrew Smith, founder of the Ontario Veterinary College, is the highest award given to a member of the graduating class.

Qualifications: The qualifications which are considered, in order of importance, are scholastic ability and clinical proficiency. The student's entire college career will be considered.
Semester: 8.
Amount: A medal.

South Durham Veterinary Association Bursary

The South Durham Veterinary Association donates an annual bursary. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 4 of the DVM program and have demonstrated need of financial assistance. Preference will be given to residents of the Durham region.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Bursary.

W.G. Stevenson Memorial Scholarship

Presented by Rogar/STB Limited as a memorial to Dr. W. Gordon Stevenson, OVC '37.

Qualifications: Student with the highest standing in the examination in health management.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $150.

Lesley Lewisohn Stewart Bursary

Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Student with demonstrated financial need, registered in the DVM program.

Amount: Bursary.

Dr. W.J. Stinson Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 8 of the DVM program and who is the most proficient in bovine reproduction and obstetrics.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $100 annually.

Dr. Samuel Downing Stirk Memorial Award
Qualifications: Presented to the student who has completed semester 8 to have the best diagnostic ability in the diseases of large animals.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Monetary award and a framed picture.

Thibeault Bursaries

Funds provided by Dr. C. Thibeault, a former student of OVC. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Students in the DVM program.

Luke Thomson Memorial Award

Donated by Dr. Catherine Thomson McGhie (OVC '91), in memory of her beloved German Shepherd dog Luke. Article submission to the OVC Awards Committee by January 1.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the DVM program who have submitted an article suitable for publication dealing with the Human-Companion Animal Bond and its relevance in Veterinary Practice. The recipient will be selected on the basis of the assessment of the article completed according to CVJ format for Brief Communications.
Amount: $500 annually.

Toronto Humane Society Scholarships
Qualifications: Students who have successfully completed semester 8 of the DVM program. The recipients, a man and a woman, will be selected on the basis of academic performance and demonstrated care and concern for the welfare and well-being of animals.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Two scholarships of $250.

Maude Loretta Trapp Memorial Bursaries

Bursaries endowed by Maude Loretta Trapp, a humanitarian and lover of animals. Apply to the Dean's Office, OVC.

Qualifications: Undergraduate veterinary students who are residents of North Western Ontario. Applicants will have acceptable academic performance and demonstrated financial need.

Upjohn Company Awards
Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 8 of the DVM program. One award is given for proficiency in Large Animal Clinics and the other for proficiency in Small Animal Clinics.
