Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

Entrance Awards

Harold A. Kopas Memorial Entrance Award

The award is restricted to students who have completed their secondary school education within the County of Wellington or Waterloo Region.

Qualifications: Student who has demonstrated need for financial assistance, together with a minimum average of 70% entering the B.Sc.(Agr.) program. The student will be awarded $1,400 in the first semester and will receive subsequent payments of $700 in the 3rd, 5th and 7th semesters by maintaining a 70% cumulative average and a continuing financial need. The student is to continue in the B.Sc.(Agr.) or D.V.M. program.
Amount: $3,500 annually.

OAC Alumni Foundation Entrance Scholarships

Apply to the OAC Dean's Office, Johnston Hall by September 30.

Qualifications: OAC students entering the B.L.A., B.Sc.(Agr.), B.A., B.Sc., or B.Comm. programs who have an admission average in excess of 80%. Participation in extracurricular activities, community activities and demonstrated leadership skills will also be considered. The award will be made in 2 instalments of $1,200 payable after registration in each of the 1st and 3rd semester levels. To maintain the scholarship, a recipient must continue with satisfactory academic standing in a degree program in the Ontario Agricultural College.
Amount: Five entrance scholarships of $2,400.

Amos & William Lowe Memorial Scholarship

Endowed by the late William B. Lowe of Fort Francis, Ontario. Preference will be given first to eligible students from the District of Rainy River, then from the District of Kenora or Thunder Bay, and finally from the remaining Districts of Northern Ontario.

Qualifications: Student entering any of the undergraduate degree programs of the Ontario Agricultural College.
Amount: Scholarship of $1,400.

Robert Thompson Scholarship

In memory of the late Robert Thompson. This scholarship is not tenable with the OAC Alumni Foundation Entrance Scholarship.

Qualifications: Student of high academic standing entering the first semester of the B.Sc. (Agr.) program.
Amount: Scholarship of $400.

In-Course Awards

Allied Farm Services Scholarship

Presented by Mr. G.C. Baines, President of the Allied Farm Services of Canada, London, Ontario.

Qualifications: Student graduating from the B.Sc.(Agr.) program with the highest cumulative average in all semesters.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Scholarship of $250 annually.

Glenn (Andy) W. Anderson Scholarship

Family and friends of Glenn (Andy) Anderson (OAC '54 Crop Science) have created a scholarship to honour him at the time of his retirement after 41 years as a Professor in OAC. He had an interest in weed science throughout his career. Students are to apply, including a letter of reference from a Crop Science faculty member, to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Offered to OAC diploma students with an interest in Crop Science who enter the B.Sc.(Agr.) Degree program and who demonstrate a commitment to and an interest in weed science. Selection will be based on performance in courses in weed science, summer employment and/or work activity in the agricultural chemical industry and/or leadership activities in weed science and related areas. Preference will be given to a student who has resided in Ontario for at least 12 months prior to admission to the University of Guelph.
Amount: $500.

John A. Archibald Memorial Scholarship

In memory of John A. Archibald, former Director of the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Outstanding student in the Department of Land Resource Science who has completed semester 6. The recipient will be chosen on the basis both of high academic standing and participation in extracurricular activities.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $600 annually.

Joseph Arlen Memorial Award in Horticulture
Qualifications: Student graduating from the B.Sc.(Agr.) program major in Horticultural Science and Business with the highest cumulative average in all semesters.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $300.

Bruce County Graduation Prize

Offered by the Corporation of the County of Bruce.

Qualifications: Student from Bruce County with the highest academic standing in the final full-time semester (4 course minimum), at the 8th semester level, in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program.
Semester: 8 .
Amount: Annual prize of $200.

Canadian Society of Animal Science Book Prize
Qualifications: Student in the Animal Science or Animal Biology major who has attained the highest academic standing in the first 6 semesters.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Annual book prize.

Samuel Carr Scholarship

Offered from the estate of Samuel Leister Carr. Apply by letter to the Dean of the Ontario Agricultural College by April 1.

Qualifications: Student completing the requirements for the B.Sc.(Agr.) program with a minimum of 70% standing in semester levels 7 and 8 and who has demonstrated willingness to assume responsibility and leadership in College and community activities. Preference will be given to candidates who, upon graduation, take an active part in the operation of a farm, that are involved with the management and day-to-day operation of the farm and who have a capital investment in the farm.
Semester: 8 .
Amount: Annual scholarship of $2,000.

J. Ross Cavers International Exchange Scholarship

OAC '53 provides this scholarship in memory of J. Ross Cavers, their honourary year member and Professor Emeritus. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Undergraduate student in OAC with travel and/or housing costs associated with a semester or more of academic study or cooperative work experience through a recognized university outside Canada. Students must have completed 15 semester courses and have a standing in their undergraduate course work. Preference will be given to a candidate who has exhibited qualities of leadership.
Amount: Scholarship of $1,000.

J. Ross Cavers Memorial Scholarship

The members of OAC '53 have established, in honour of their highly respected Honorary President and now Honorary Year member, Professor Emeritus Cavers, a scholarship to assist Canadian students to become more aware of international agriculture and hence to contribute to solutions of world food problems. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Canadian citizen with high academic standing over the first two semesters of the B.Sc.(Agr.) program who enrols in the minor in International Agriculture. Participation in extracurricular activities will also be taken into account. Students must register for the International Field Study course (01-250) in the year the award is received.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Scholarship of $1000.

Michael Chepesuik International Travel Grant

Offered in memory of the late Michael W. Chepesuik, OAC '30. Application by letter should be made to the OAC Dean's Office by April 15, and include a description of the study program.

Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate students pursuing studies in Agricultural Economics and who are studying outside of Canada for one or more semesters.
Amount: Travel grant (or grants). Up to 80% of the actual travel costs associated with the study outside of Canada program will be covered up to a maximum of $1,000 per student.

George I. Christie Scholarship

The late George I. Christie, president of OAC from 1928 to 1945, established a trust fund to provide an annual scholarship for graduate work. Applications approved by the Chair, Department of Animal and Poultry Science, should be submitted to the OAC Dean's office by April 1.

Qualifications: Awarded to a student graduating with high standing in an animal and poultry science major who proposes to pursue graduate studies in animal science at any institution of his/her choice.
Amount: $600

Class of 1905 Scholarship

Established by the graduating class of 1905. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed the 6th semester level in a major in an OAC department and is considered to be the most outstanding student in the class and who, through activity in all branches of college life, as well as proficiency in scholarship during the program, has done most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $150.

Class of `51 OAC Leadership Awards

Established by Year `51 OAC, on the occasion of its 45th anniversary. Apply by letter to the OAC Student Federation, Johnston Hall, by March 1.

Qualifications: Students graduating from the degree program in a major in an OAC department who have a 70% standing in the final year of study and who have demonstrated leadership in the College or University extra curricular activities. At the discretion of the OAC Awards Committee students may be selected before graduation.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Three annual awards of $1,000.

Class 1955 O.A.C. Scholarship

Offered by O.A.C. Class '55. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student at the conclusion of semester 4. The recipient will have made an outstanding contribution to college life through academic proficiency and participation in extracurricular activities and can be considered to have done the most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Scholarship of $1,400.

Class '67 OAC Centennial Scholarship

Offered by the Class of '67 OAC. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in a major in an OAC department who through activity in all branches of college life as well as scholastic achievement has made an outstanding contribution to the University.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Annual scholarship of $500.

Class '76 Graduation Prize

This prize is not tenable with the Charles McGowan or the Beth Duncan Gold Medalist.

Qualifications: Outstanding graduating student in a major in an OAC department who has been active in OAC student activities while maintaining a minimum of 70% standing.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual prize of $100.

Bruce M. Cohoe Prize
Qualifications: Student in the final semester level of Agronomy for outstanding academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities at the departmental, College and University levels.
Semester: 8 .
Amount: Prize of $500.

Credit Valley Conservation Authority Foundation Bursary

Preference will be given to a student who resides in a member municipality of the Credit Valley Authority Foundation. Enquiries should be made at Student Financial Services, Registrarial Services.

Qualifications: Full-time student registered in the B.A. program Geography, the B.Sc. program Geography, the B.Sc. Engineering program (Water Resource Engineering), or the B.Sc. Agriculture program (Resource Management or Resource Economics) with demonstrated financial need.
Amount: Bursary of $500 annually.

Deloitte Touche Scholarship.

Preference will be given to students with an interest in International Agriculture. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student majoring in Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Business who has completed semester 6. Academic standing and demonstrated leadership qualities will be the criteria used to determine the recipient.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Annual scholarship of $750.

Department of Horticultural Science Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has completed the 6th semester level working towards the B.Sc.(Agr.) degree in Horticultural Science and Business, and who has the highest academic proficiency at the conclusion of the first 6 semesters.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $200.

Beth Duncan Gold Medalist

Offered by the OAC Alumni Foundation to a student in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program.

Qualifications: Graduating student who has maintained minimum of a 70% standing in all semester levels while participating in and contributing to the extracurricular program on campus.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Beth Duncan Gold Medal.

Fertilizer Institute of Ontario Scholarships

Provided by the Fertilizer Institute of Ontario Inc. to worthy students in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: These scholarships are presented to students at the conclusion of both the 4th and 6th semester levels in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program. Scholastic attainment and participation in extra curricular activities will be considered in making these awards.
Semester: 4, 6.
Amount: Two scholarships of $200.

Foodland Hydro Scholarship

The Foodland Hydro was established by the Foodland Hydro Committee. Preference may be given to a student from Bruce, Huron or Middlesex Counties. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program and who has an interest in agricultural environmental issues as they are affected by the public interest process.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $500.

Robert S. Fulkerson Scholarship

Professor Robert S. Fulkerson, a former faculty member iin the Department of Crop Science and graduate of OAC in 1946 has endowed this annual award. Applications should be submitted to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Students in crop science who have completed semester 6 with a 'B' average or better academic standing, have an interest in crop productions, and are in financial need may apply.
Amount: $500

William Godfrey Memorial Scholarship in Horticulture

In memory of William Godfrey, '33 O.A.C.. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student majoring in Horticultural Science and Business who has completed semester 4 or 6 with a minimum of 70% standing, who has participated in extracurricular activities and who has an interest in tree fruit production. The scholarship is payable in 2 instalments of $500 each with the second instalment conditional upon the student obtaining a minimum of 70% standing in semester 5 and 6 or registering in a graduate program in Horticultural Science as applicable.

Amount: Annual scholarship of $1000.

Harold T. Griffin Inc. Scholarships

Harold T. Griffin, Inc. Mississauga, makes these awards available to assist co-op students with the costs associated with relocation for their second work term. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Awarded to Food Science students enrolled in the co-operative education program, on the basis of academic standing and participation in extracurricular activities.
Amount: Two $1,000 scholarships

Growmark Scholarship

Growmark and some of its member co-operatives annually provide scholarships . The award may be held only once. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 4 or 6 of the B.Sc.(Agr.) Degree or B.Comm. Degree with a major in Agricultural Business, or semester 2 of the Diploma in Agriculture program. One scholarship will be awarded in the Diploma program and two in the Degree programs, one at the conclusion of Semester 4, one at the conclusion of semester 6. Students must have at least a cumulative average of 70% and have demonstrated leadership and involvement in one or more of extracurricular activities, community service, or agricultural employment.
Amount: Three scholarships of $800 each.

Robert Harcourt Scholarships

This fund was established by the late Mrs. R. Harcourt in honour of the late Dr. Robert Harcourt.

Qualifications: Students on the completion of the 4th or 6th semester levels of any major in the Department of Land Resource Science.
Semester: 4, 6.
Amount: Two annual scholarships of $600.

David George Harrison Memorial Scholarship
Qualifications: Student from the Region of Waterloo or County of Oxford who has completed six semesters of the Animal and Poultry Science major with the highest cumulative average.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $500 annually.

Intervet Canada Poultry Health Prize

Papers will be evaluated by the faculty in the Department of Animal and Poultry Science and the prize will be awarded to the author of the paper judged to be the best.

Qualifications: Student enrolled in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program registered in course 10-303, Poultry Production, and who submits a paper on some aspect of poultry health as it relates to poultry production.
Amount: Prize of $500.

Ross Jones Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Ross Jones, '71 OAC, his friends, colleagues and classmates. Apply to the Assistant Director, Awards by April 1. This scholarship is not tenable with the Silas J. Smith Graduation Scholarship.

Qualifications: Graduating student who demonstrates the greatest potential in the area of Weed Science.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual scholarship of $300.

Gwen Karr Memorial Bursary

Endowment fund provided by Mr. T.K.C. Karr, OAC '32. These bursaries provide financial assistance to students with established need and are distributed at the discretion of the University Bursary Committee. Enquiries should be made at Student Financial Services, Registrarial Services.

Qualifications: Students in a degree or diploma program of the Ontario Agricultural College.
Semester: All semesters.

Robert Keegan Memorial Scholarship

Offered by the family of the late Robert Keegan, formerly Professor of Plant Breeding. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in the Crop Science or Agronomy majors. The award will be presented to a student with a minimum of 70% standing in his/her final year, a proficiency and interest in grain crops and who has actively participated in student organizations and extracurricular activities.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Scholarship of $300.

Kevin Lang Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Kevin Lang, '79 OAC. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in the Animal and Poultry Science major who, at the completion of semester 6, has contributed most to extra curricular activities related to animal agriculture.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $500.

Lieutenant Governor's Medal
Qualifications: Student on the completion of the 8th semester of the B.Sc.(Agr.) program who, during the entire program, has been the outstanding student in all phases of the work in the Department of Animal and Poultry Science.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Medal awarded annually.

Roderick Long International Travel Grant

Offered in memory of the late Roderick Long, OAC '54. Application by letter should be made to the OAC Dean's Office, Johnston Hall by April 15, and include a description of the study abroad program.

Qualifications: OAC undergraduate student who is studying outside of Canada on an approved program for one or more semesters.
Amount: Travel grant (or grants) totalling $1,000 annually. Eighty percent of the travel costs associated with the study outside of Canada program will be covered up to a maximum of $1,000 per student.

Bob McCann Memorial Scholarship

Mrs. Edward McCann offers this scholarship in memory of her son. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed the 4th semester level and entering the 5th semester level of the Agroecosystem Management major. The student must have obtained 70% standing at the end of the 4th semester level and must have been active in student activities.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $700 scholarship.

Mae McEwen Memorial Scholarship

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the Environmental Biology major in the B.Sc (Agr.) or B.Sc. programs with a cumulative average of 80% or better. Participation in extra curricular activities related to environmental issues will be considered in determining the recipient.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $800.

Charles McGowan Memorial Prize

Fund established in memory of the late Lieutenant Charles McGowan.

Qualifications: Outstanding graduating student of the B.Sc.(Agr.) program.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Prize of $200.

Grant Misener Bursaries

Dr. Andrew Grant Misener, an alumnus of the University of Guelph, has provided this endowment fund. These bursaries provide financial assistance to students with established need and are distributed at the discretion of the University Bursary Committee. Enquiries should be made at Student Financial Services, Office of Registrarial Services.

Qualifications: Students in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program.
Semester: All semesters.

Dawn Morris Memorial Award

Offered in memory of Dawn Morris, who spent 35 years in farm show business and was former Manager of the Canadian International Farm Equipment Show in Toronto. Students are encouraged to submit information on extracurricular activities to the OAC Dean's Office, Johnston Hall one month prior to their convocation.

Qualifications: Student who is graduating from the Agricultural Business major of the B.Comm. degree or the Agricultural Economics major in the B.Sc.(Agr.) degree with a minimum 'B+' average. Selection will be on the basis of relevant course work in agricultural marketing, extracurricular participation and employment activities.
Amount: $1,000.

OAC Alumni Foundation Leadership Awards

Apply ot the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: OAC degree students (agricultural science, environmental science, agricultural business, landscape architecture, science) who have completed four full-time semesters or equivalent with a cumulative average of at least 70%. Students should include with their application a statement of their accomplishments during their first four semesters in the area of personal development and list their leadership development activities.
Amount: Five annual awards of $1,000.

OAC Centennial Graduate Fellowships

The Ontario Agricultural College celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1974. Many organizations and companies associated with the agricultural industry provided funds in conjunction with the Centennial activities. Funds have been established in perpetuity as a permanent commemoration of the Centennial of the College. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Students graduating from a degree program administered by the Ontario Agricultural College and who plan to pursue graduate studies in any department or school of the Ontario Agricultural College in the year of baccalaureate graduation are eligible for these fellowships. The fellowship will be based on academic achievement in semesters 7 and 8, as well as participation in extracurricular activities throughout the student's university career.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Two scholarships of $1500.

OAC '45 Public Speaking Awards

Offered by the Class of `45 OAC, on the occasion of their 40th anniversary.

Qualifications: Graduating student in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program who has demonstrated proficiency in Public Speaking and Communication.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $1,000.

OAC '52 Student Assistance Fund

Offered on the occasion of OAC '52's, 40th anniversary. Apply by letter, accompanied by a Student Budget/Bursary application form, to Student Financial Services by December 15. Budget/Bursary application forms are obtainable from Student Financial Services, 3rd Floor, U.C.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree students who have completed two or more semesters in an academic program administered by OAC and who are in good academic standing.
Amount: 3 awards of $1,000.

OAC Students' Federation Medal
Qualifications: Graduating student in an undergraduate degree program in a major in an OAC department who has been an outstanding leader in student activities at the College level throughout his or her University career.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Medal awarded annually.

Ontario Cattlemen's Association Scholarships

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester level 4 in Agricultural Science or Agricultural Business. Normally one student from each department will be selected. These students must have been raised on a farm in Ontario. Academic standing and participation in community leadership will be taken into account.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Two annual awards of $500.

Ontario Grain and Feed Association Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has the highest standing in the courses in Nutrition taken in the 5th and 6th semester levels.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Annual scholarship of $1000.

Ontario Grape Growers Bursary

Offered by the Ontario Grape Growers Action Committee. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services.

Qualifications: Students with good academic standing in semesters 3 to 6 of a degree program or semesters 3 to 4 of a diploma program administered by OAC, and demonstrated need of financial assistance.
Amount: Bursary.

Ontario Horticultural Association Prize
Qualifications: Student in the Horticultural Science and Business major of the B.Sc.(Agr.) program having the highest academic standing at graduation.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual prize of $200.

Ottawa-Carleton l983 International Ploughing Match Scholarships

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Students from the Ottawa-Carleton region in the year they have completed semester 2 in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program and who have a cumulative average of 'B' (minimum) standing in semesters 1 and 2. Participation in extracurricular activities and financial need will be considered.
Semester: 2.
Amount: Three scholarships of $1,000.

R.W. (Bob) Pawley Scholarship

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program upon completion of the first 4 semesters who has had active participation or involvement in production agriculture.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Annual scholarship of $400.

Thomas H. Peters Scholarship
Qualifications: Student in any academic program of the University who has completed courses in Land Reclamation (e.g. 29-228, 87-320). Applicants must have a minimum of 70% cumulative average and have demonstrated an interest and aptitude in the area of crops and land reclamation.
Semester: 5 to 8.
Amount: Scholarship of $150.

Gary Putnam Memorial Scholarship

Provided in memory of their son Gary by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Putnam. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Graduating B.Sc.(Agr.) student with high standing in at least 3 courses in pesticides or alternative methods of insect, disease and weed control.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $400 annually.

G. Elmore Reaman Family Scholarship

In honour of Dr. G. Elmore Reaman, Head of the Department of English, OAC, 1939, 1954. Apply to Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program. The award is made on the basis of progress and academic attainment over the first 4 semester levels with equal weight given to participation in the extracurricular program.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Scholarship of $800.

C.W. Riley Prize

The C.W. Riley Prize was established by a number of his friends and associates.

Qualifications: Student, who, on graduation from Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Business, attains the highest proficiency in the area subjects.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annually prize of $250.

Archie and Isabelle (Cook) Rintoul Bursary

This bursary is respectively provide by Archie and Isabelle (Cook) Rintoul of OAC '26 and MAC '27. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: OAC student in the Department of Environmental Biology in the B.Sc., B.Sc.(Agr.) or the B.Sc.(Env.) degree programs. Students who have completed semester 4 and who have demonstrated financial need are eligible.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $500.

Robb Travel Grants

In recognition of her love of agriculture, travel bursaries have been provided by the estate of Martha Robb, Paris, Ontario. Apply to the Dean, OAC by April 15.

Qualifications: OAC students who are attending another university on a Letter of Permission.
Amount: 80% of the travel costs will be covered up to $750 per student.

Shur-Gain Scholarship

Provided by Shur-Gain, a member of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Undergraduate in Animal Science or Animal Biology who has high academic standing during the first 4 semesters and is continuing in that program. Positive evidence of leadership and contribution to university and/or community life are also given strong consideration.
Semester: 4.

Kae and Gordon Skinner Memorial Scholarship

Provided by the late Kae Stalker Skinner (Mac '30) and Gordon Skinner (OAC '24), former Registrar of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: OAC student graduating from the B.Sc.(Agr.), B.Sc., or B.Comm. programs who has made a significant contribution to developing an understanding of the profession of agrology among fellow students.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Scholarship of $500.

Silas J. Smith Scholarships

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Outstanding students entering the Crop Science or Agronomy majors in semester 3 each year. Academic standing and extracurricular activities are considered in determining the recipients.
Semester: 2.
Amount: Two scholarships of $500.

Silas J. Smith Graduation Scholarships
Qualifications: Graduating students in Crop Science or Agronomy who have attained a minimum cumulative average of 70% standing and who have participated in extra curricular activities. One scholarship will be awarded to a student who has shown interest and aptitude in weed science and the other to a student who has shown interest in forages.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Two scholarships of $500.

C.M. Switzer Scholarships
Qualifications: One to a student who has completed semester 2 of the Diploma in Agriculture program and one to a student who has completed semester 4 of a degree program in OAC Recipients will have a minimum of 70% standing and have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability in OAC student organizations, class executives and College Royal.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Two scholarships of $2,000.

Amber (Gibbons) Underwood Communications Award

Offered in memory of Amber (Gibbons) Underwood (OAC '79, M.Sc. '87) by the Gibbons and Underwood families and the class of OAC '79.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program of the Ontario Agricultural College. The recipient will be selected on the basis of the highest average in one or more of the courses dealing with communications: 38-304 Communication Process, 38-306 International Communication and 38-405 Agricultural Communication.
Amount: $300 annually.

Varley and Lyon Exchange Scholarships

Miss Bertha Manent of New York City has established three Mrs. Lillie Jane Lyon Varley and Clarence D. Lyon Exchange scholarships. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1, including a letter from the Dean or Director approving the proposed program of study.

Qualifications: OAC students who are pursuing a course of study for 1 or 2 semesters at another college or faculty of agriculture in Canada or in another country. Such course of study must lead to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Agricultural Business or the Diploma in Agriculture at the University of Guelph.
Semester: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Amount: up to $750.

W.H. Waddell Scholarship.

Established by Professor W.H. Waddell. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Graduating student in the Agronomy major who has a high academic standing in plant breeding and in genetics and has demonstrated an interest in Crop Science.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Scholarship of $400.

Doug Wakely Memorial Scholarship

Provided by the friends and business associates of the late Doug Wakely. Preference will be given to students from the counties/regions of Wellington, Huron, Bruce, Perth or Waterloo. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in the B.Sc.(Agr.) program who has completed course(s) in livestock production or in grain crop production and who has participated in athletics at the University, intramural or community level as a player or in an organizing capacity.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $600.

T.K. Warley Agrifood Policy Prize

Established by Prof. T.K. Warley, former Chair of the Department of Agricultural Economics and a faculty member of the Ontario Agricultural College from 1970 to 1991.

Qualifications: Student providing the best term paper written on a public policy issue relating to the agrifood system or rural society in courses such as 02-329 Production Economics, 02-400 Agricultural and Food Policy, and 02-472 Special Study in Agricultural Economics.
Amount: Prize of $500.

R.J. Watford Prize

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Graduating student who has shown proficiency in the poultry courses in semesters 4 to 8. The student shall have a genuine interest in the poultry industry and special consideration will be given to a student who indicates a desire to establish some form of poultry production or who seeks employment in the poultry industry.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Prize of $500.

White Rose Nurseries Travel Grants

Provided by White Rose Nurseries. Apply to the OAC Dean's Office, Johnston Hall by April 1 outlining the proposed study program and an indication that the program has been agreed to by the student's faculty advisor.

Qualifications: Students in Horticultural Science and Business who take a semester or two of approved study at another institution.
Amount: Travel grants (up to 80 % of costs to a maximum grant of $1,000).

Frank E. Wolff International Scholarship

The late Frank E. Wolff was a faculty member and a graduate of OAC. He was active in the OAC Alumni Foundation and in the establishment of the OAC Alumni Foundation. This scholarship fund was established in memory of Frank E. Wolff, Mr. A.O. Wolff and family. As a faculty member, he studied the techniques of artificial insemination of cattle in Denmark and upon his return in 1939, employed these techniques in the OAC herd. To be considered for this award, students must apply for the J. Ross Cavers International Scholarship.

Qualifications: Students who have an interest in International Agriculture. The scholarships will be awarded to students with a minimum of a 70% standing over the first 4 semester levels of the B.Sc.(Agr.) program. Students must register for the International Field Study course (01-250) in the year the award is received.
Semester: 4, 6.
Amount: Up to 6 annual scholarships of $600.
