Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences

Entrance Awards

Amos & William Lowe Memorial Scholarship

Endowed by the late William B. Lowe of Fort Francis, Ontario. Preference will be given first to eligible students from the district of Rainy River, then from the district of Kenora or Thunder Bay, and finally from the remaining districts of Northern Ontario.

Qualifications: Student entering any of the undergraduate degree programs of the Ontario Agricultural College.
Amount: Two annual awards of $1,000

OAC Alumni Foundation Entrance Scholarships

The award will be made in 2 instalments of $1,200 payable after registration in each of the 1st, and 3rd semester levels. To maintain the scholarship, a recipient must continue with satisfactory academic standing in a degree program in the Ontario Agricultural College. Apply to the OAC Dean's Office, Johnston Hall, by September 30.

Qualifications: OAC students entering the B.A., B.Comm., B.L.A., B.Sc., B.Sc.(Agr.), or B.Sc.(Env.) programs who have an admission average in excess of 80%. Participation in extracurricular activities, community activities and demonstrated leadership skills will also be considered.
Amount: Five scholarships of $2,400

In-Course Awards

John A. Archibald Memorial Scholarship

Awarded in memory of John A. Archibald, former Director of the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: An outstanding student in the Department of Land Resource Science who has completed semester 6. The recipient will be chosen on the basis both of high academic standing and participation in extracurricular activities.
Semester: 6
Amount: Scholarship $600 annually

J. Ross Cavers International Exchange Scholarship

Offered by OAC '53 in memory of J.Ross Carvers, their honorary year member and University Professor Emeritus. Preference will be given to a candidate who has exhibited qualities of leadership. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Undergraduate student in OAC with travel and/or housing costs associated with a semester or more of academic study or cooperative work experience through a recognized university outside Canada. Students must have completed [7.50] credits and have a standing in their undergraduate course work.
Amount: $1,000

Class of 1905 Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the graduating class of 1905. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: The student who has completed the 6th semester level in a major in an OAC department and is considered to be the most outstanding student in the class and who, through activity in all branches of college life, as well as proficiency in scholarship during the program, has done most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 6
Amount: $150.

Class of '51 OAC Leadership Awards

Year '51 OAC, on the occasion of its 45th anniversary, has established up to 2 annual awards. At the discretion of the OAC Awards Committee students may be selected before graduation. Apply to the OAC Student Federation, Johnston Hall, by March 1.

Qualifications: Students graduating from the degree program in a major in an OAC department who have a 70% standing in the final year of study and who have demonstrated leadership in the College or University extracurricular activities.
Semester: 8
Amount: Three awards of $1,000 annually

Class 1955 OAC Scholarship

Offered by the OAC Class of 1955. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Outstanding OAC degree student at the conclusion of semester 4. The recipient will have made an outstanding contribution to college life through academic proficiency and participation in extracurricular activities and can be considered to have done the most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 4
Amount: Scholarship of $1,600

Class '67 OAC Centennial Scholarship

The Class of '67 OAC offers an annual scholarship. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student in a major in an OAC department who through activity in all branches of college life as well as scholastic achievement has made an outstanding contribution to the University.
Semester: 6
Amount: Annual award of $600

Class '76 Graduation Prize

An annual prize will be awarded. This prize is not tenable with the Charles McGowan or the Beth Duncan Gold Medalist.

Qualifications: Outstanding graduating student in a major in an OAC department who has been active in OAC student activities while maintaining a minimum of 70% standing.
Semester: 8
Amount: $100

Robert Harcourt Scholarships

Established in honour of the late Dr. Robert Harcourt, by the late Mrs. R. Harcourt.

Qualifications: Students on the completion of the 4th or 6th semester levels of any major in the Department of Land Resource Science.
Semester: 4, 6
Amount: Two annual scholarships of $600

H. Paul Jolly Award
Qualifications: Student with the highest cumulative average entering semester 3 of the B.Sc.(Env.) program.
Amount: $350.

Mae McEwen Memorial Scholarship

Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the Environmental Biology major in the B.Sc. or B.Sc (Env.) programs with a cumulative average of 80% or better. Participation in extra curricular activities related to environmental issues will be considered in determining the recipient.
Semester: 6
Amount: Scholarship of $800

OAC Alumni Foundation Leadership Awards

Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: OAC degree student (agricultural science, environmental science, agricultural business, landscape architecture, science) who have completed four full-time semesters or equivalent with a cumulative average of at least 70%. Students should include with their application a statement of their accomplishments during their first four semesters in the area of personal development and list their leadership development activities.
Amount: Five awards of $1,000 annually

OAC Centennial Graduate Fellowships

The Ontario Agricultural College celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1974. Many organizations and companies associated with the agricultural industry provided funds in conjunction with the Centennial activities. Two scholarships have been established in perpetuity as a permanent commemoration of the Centennial of the College. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Students graduating from a degree program administered by the Ontario Agricultural College and who plan to pursue graduate studies in any department or school of the Ontario Agricultural College in the year of baccalaureate graduation are eligible for these fellowships. The fellowships will be based on academic achievement in semesters 7 and 8, as well as participation in extracurricular activities throughout the student's university career.
Semester: 8
Amount: $1,500

OAC '52 Student Assistance Fund

OAC '52, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, provides financial assistance for undergraduate degree students. Apply by letter, accompanied by a Student Budget/Bursary application form, to Student Financial Services by December 15. Budget/Bursary application forms are obtainable from the Student Financial Services Office, 3rd Floor, U.C.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree students who have completed two or more semesters in an academic program administered by OAC and who are in good academic standing.
Amount: Financial assistance.

OAC Students' Federation Medal
Qualifications: Graduating student in an undergraduate degree program majoring in an OAC department who has been an outstanding leader in student activities at the College level throughout his or her University career.
Semester: 8
Amount: Medal awarded annually

Archie and Isabelle (Cook) Rintoul Bursary

Bursary provided by Archie and Isabelle (Cook) Rintoul of OAC '26 and MAC '27 respectively. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: An OAC student in the Department of Environmental Biology in the B.Sc., B.Sc.(Agr.) or the B.Sc.(Env.) degree programs. Students who have completed semester 4 and who have demonstrated financial need are eligible.
Semester: 4
Amount: $500

Jim Stokman Memorial Scholarship

Mrs. Stokman and family, including sons Nick (OAC '77) and Andrew (OAC '84) have established this award in memory of her husband and their father to recognize his lifetime contribution to the family farm. Apply to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Available to OAC students who have completed semester 2 with at least 'B' average in one of the following programs: B.Sc.(Agr.); B.Comm; B.Sc. or B.Sc.(Env.). Students must have come from a rural background and have demonstrated community/student involvement both during high school and the first two semesters of University.
Amount: $500 annually
