Exchange Programs

There are various exchange programs available to undergraduate students who wish to study at an institution located in a different country for varying periods of time. For regulations on exchange programs, refer to Section VIII--Undergraduate Degree Regulations and Procedures. The following exchange programs are currently available to undergraduate students. There are additional exchange opportunities under consideration that are not outlined in this section. Details can be ascertained through the appropriate program counsellors or by contacting the Centre for International Programs.

Agricultural University of Norway

Located about 25 km. south of Oslo, Aas is home to the Agricultural University of Norway. This exchange program is open to Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students who have maintained a minimum of 75% average. For more information, consult the exchange coordinator for the BLA program.

University of Aberdeen, Scotland

The exchange program with the University of Aberdeen, Scotland is open to students with a variety of academic interests in the arts, humanities, basic sciences, social sciences, and professional fields. The objective of the exchange is to increase students understanding of Scottish culture and to improve educational offerings through expanding the pool of teachers, students, and facilities. The exchange will offer a selection of courses from the full range of programs offered at each institution and will be open to both Graduate and Undergraduate students. University of Adelaide, Australia

The exchange program with the University of Adelaide in Australia is open to students from a variety of academic programs, including the Humanities, Engineering, Social Science and Science. However, the program is particularly suited to Environmental Science and Agriculture students. Students must have completed at least three semester and have maintained a "B" average. Students interested in studying at one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious universities should contact Jill Johnson, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

The universities of Ontario offer 50 students each year the opportunity to study at a university in Ontario's sister province of Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. The program is open to students in all fields. Students who are selected must enrol in a full time course of study at a Baden Wurttemberg university. Competence in German appropriate to the field of study and level of study is required. For more details, consult with Dr. Renate Benson, Department of Languages and Literatures.

Universitat fur BodenKultur Wein (BOKU), Austria

Located in Vienna, Austria, this University offers an exchange program for those interested in Agriculture, Forestry or Natural Resources. BOKU is a scenic university which includes an experimental farm and a horticultural research garden. For more information, contact Dr. Peter Stonehouse, Agricultural Economics and business.

University of Bristol, England

Students from Semester 2, OVC, may apply to participate in an exchange program with the School of Veterinary Science, University of Bristol. Up to 3 students per year will be chosen to attend for the 3rd semester. The exchange involves a total of [3.00] credits. Further information can be obtained from the coordinator of the elective/externship programs.

University of Canberra, Australia

Students in Landscape Architecture, Humanities, Engineering, Agriculture, Environmental Science and Social and Applied Human Sciences may apply to participate in an exchange program with the University of Canberra, Australia. Up to 5 students per year will be chosen to attend for the equivalent of 2 semesters for a maximum of [4.00] credits. For more details, contact the Centre for International Programs.

Universita Cattolica Del Sacro Cuore, Italy

The Universita' Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is one of the leading teaching and research universities in Italy. The exchange is open to all Guelph students. The Catholic University is part of the Erasmus program, the exchange program within the European Union, so that Canadian students are normally studying side by side with other non-Italian students. Language of instruction is Italian. Past experience shows that a minimum knowledge of Italian or fluency in either French or Spanish is sufficient to overcome the practical language problems. Contact the exchange coordinator Dr. F. Braga, Department of Agricultural Economics and Business, at least 1 semester before the desired departure date.

Royal Agricultural College, England

This exchange agreement with the Royal Agricultural College, England provides an opportunity for students in agriculture to participate in an exchange program of 1 or 2 semesters. Students in any area of agricultural science or agricultural business are eligible for this exchange program; normally students are in semesters 5, 6, or 7 at the time of their study at RAC. CUSAC

This exchange/study abroad program, open to students from several degree programs, provides opportunities for Guelph students to spend a semester in partner universities in 11 countries and 2 regions of the Commonwealth. Standing for Commonwealth Universities Study Abroad Consortium, CUSAC is designed primarily to permit Guelph students to study in a university in a tropical Commonwealth country. Curtin University, Australia

Situated on Australia's west coast, Curtin University will appeal especially to Agriculture, Science, Environmental Science, and Social Science students. The city of Perth will be your home for one semester or one year if you participate in this exchange program. Technical University of Dresden, Germany

Students from the School of Landscape Architecture may apply to participate in an exchange with the Institute for Landscape Architecture at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. Up to 2 students per year will be chosen to attend for the equivalent of 2 semesters for a maximum of [4.00] credits. The objective of this exchange program is to learn and understand cultural, historical and architectural resources of Europe. For more details consult with the program counsellor for the B.L.A. program.

Edith Cowan University, Australia

Exchange is available to University of Guelph students, particularly those in Environmental Science, Social Science, and the Humanities. One semester or one year programs are offered. Apply in October. "B" average in required. Edith Cowan is located on the Indian Ocean in Perth, Western Australia. Contact Jill Johnson, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Europa-Universitat Viadrina Frankfurt, Germany

Open to students in all disciplines, this exchange may be of special interest to those in European studies. Students require second year German language or equivalent to participate. Contact Dr. Eric Reiche, Department of History.

Heriot Watt University, Scotland

Students from the School of Landscape Architecture may apply to participate in an exchange program with the School of Landscape Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art, Heriot Watt University, Scotland. Up to 2 students per year will be chosen to attend for the equivalent of 2 semesters for a maximum of [4.00] credits. The objective of the exchange program is to learn and understand cultural, historical and architectural resources of Europe. University of Hohenheim, Germany

The exchange program with the University of Hohenheim, Germany is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of political/business studies, agricultural, biological, and nutritional sciences. The objective of the exchange is to expand educational and research offerings at both universities. working knowledge in German is required, however, the excellent computerized language centre offers a variety of German courses for foreigners. Iceland

This exchange program offers University of Guelph students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Iceland's unique ecology, geography and culture while studying at one of four academic institutions. This exchange program is open to students in Science, Social Science, and Environmental Science. ITESM, Mexico

For students in HAFA or agriculture or business, the Instituto technologico Y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) may be an excellent opportunity. For more information, contact the Centre for International Programs.

Jordan University of Science and Technology

Engineering students with a minimum 70% average can take courses in English at this university. Apply one year in advance by contacting Prof. Keith Slater.

Keele University, England

The exchange program at Keele University is open to undergraduate students from all academic programs but would be of particular interest to students specializing in Canadian and Postcolonial studies. Further information is available from the Centre for International Programs.

University of Konstanz, Germany

The program is designed to encourage a greater understanding of the culture and educational systems of Ontario and Baden-Wurttemberg amongst the students at Guelph and Konstanz. The exchange program is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in all areas of study. Student must be able to demonstrate a sufficient competence in the German language, and an appropriate level of study in their chosen area. Students who are selected to take part in the exchange program are required to enrol in a full-time course of study in Konstanz. For further information, contact Dr. John L. Krakow Agricultural University, Poland

Agriculture students may take courses in conjunction with the University of Guelph-Krakow semester. For more information, contact the OAC Dean's Office.

University of La Rioja, Spain

This program has an emphasis in Political Science and is particularly suited to students in the European Studies Program. Located in a well-known wine-producing area, La Rioja may also appeal to students interested in viviculture. For more information, contact Dr. Gordana Yovanovich, Department of Languages and Literatures.

Institut de d'Etudes Politiques (L'IEP) - Lyon, France

This exchange program emphasizes political and social studies. It is, however, open to students from various disciplines and may be of particular interest to those in the European Studies Program. For more information contact Dr. Renate Benson, Department of Languages and Literature.

Lincoln University, Canterbury, New Zealand

This program is mainly open to students in Agriculture, Environmental Science Resource Management, and Landscape Architecture. Interested students should have at least a "B" average and may contact the OAC Dean's Office or the exchange program coordinator for Landscape Architecture.

University of Lund, Sweden

Founded in 1666, Lund is Sweden's largest university. It is located in Scania, the southwest region of Sweden approximately 600 kilometers from Stockholm. Opportunities available for Engineering. Contact Dr. Bill James for more information.

University of Malaga, Spain

Students with third year Spanish language or equivalent are eligible to apply for this exchange. The program is particularly suited to Arts and Humanities students and students in the European Studies Program. For more information, contact Dr. Gordana Yovanovich, Department of Languages and Literatures.

Universiti Sains Malaysia

This institution has three campuses in the states of Penang, Perak, and Kelantan. Science, engineering, food science or international development students with an interest in South East Asia should contact the Centre for International Programs for more information.

Massey University, New Zealand

Massey University offers courses to University of Guelph students in Agricultural Business and Environmental Science. The program is also open to students in various other disciplines depending on their course requirements. For more information, contact the OAC Dean's Office.

Michigan State University, U.S.A.

The Michigan State exchange is open to Food Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Business or Resource Management students. You may wish to go for one semester or one year. Contact Prof. G.M. Jenkinson, OAC Dean's Office.

University of Monpellier, France

This institution focuses on political science, business and management. Students must have at least third year French language or equivalent and a 70% average to participate. Contact Dr. Alain Thomas, Department of French Studies.

Oxford-Brookes University, England

Hotel and Food Administration students who have successfully completed ten courses are eligible to apply for participation in an exchange program at this university in England. Applications are due in November of each year. For more information, contact the Department of Hotel and Food Administration.

Pierre Mendes University, Grenoble II, France

Less than three hours from Paris by train, the city of Grenoble is home to Pierre Mendes University with an enrollment of 20,000 students. The university concentrates on the social sciences and this program may be of particular interest to European Studies students. Contact Dr. Alain Thomas, Department of French Studies.

University of Plymouth, England

This exchange is designed to facilitate the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students to provide opportunities for research and for conducting at least some of their programs abroad. Students on the exchange will primarily be involved in environmental programs; however, it will not be restricted to narrowly defined fields and participation will be open to all interested members of both institutions. The exchange allows for up to 10 students to be exchanged in any academic year. Contact Jill Johnson, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Rhone-Alpes, France

The Rhone-Alpes/Ontario Exchange Program is intended to foster relations between the 2 participating regions and takes the form of an exchange of about 25 undergraduate students (of which the University of Guelph quota is usually 2 or 3, from any program) in each direction for a calendar year. Provincial government support is provided to offset some of the costs of relocation, and credits towards a Guelph degree can usually be arranged for all courses studied at the host institution. Applications are considered on an annual basis and are due in the Fall semester; details of application procedures (which include a test of a student's fluency in French) are announced well in advance of the mid-December deadline. Savoie, Chambery, France

Open to students in languages, tourism or international business. Students are required to have at least third year French. Contact Dr. Alain Thomas, Department of French Studies.

University of Stirling, Scotland

This exchange agreement between the University of Stirling, Scotland and the University of Guelph is designed to facilitate international academic exchange between the 2 institutions. There will be an opportunity for undergraduate and post-graduate students whose studies include an emphasis in the area of the environment. However, the focus will not be limited to this narrow field. The exchange will annually provide 5 students with the opportunity to attend the host institution. University of Strathclyde, Scotland

This agreement is between the University of Strathclyde, Scotland and the University of Guelph and allows for up to 4 students to transfer per year, 2 from the University of Guelph and 2 from the University of Strathclyde. The exchange is open to undergraduate students in the areas of Arts, Social Sciences, general Science and Business Administration. Contact Prof. Les Evans, Department of Land Resource Science.

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

Students from the School of Landscape Architecture may apply to participate in an exchange with the Department of Landscape Planning, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden. Up to 2 students per year will be chosen to attend for the equivalent of 2 semesters for a maximum of [4.00] credits. The objective of this exchange program is to learn and understand cultural, historical and architectural resources of Europe. University of Sydney, Australia

Australia's first university, the University of Sydney, offers exchange opportunities for 10 students per year in any discipline. This program may be of particular interest to students in agriculture and natural resource management. Contact OAC Dean's Office for more information.

University of Wisconsin-Madison, U.S.A.

This is an agreement between the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Guelph to facilitate the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students who study in the area of the environment. The exchange allows for up to 10 undergraduate students to study at the host institution per academic year. Contact Jill Johnson, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
