Analytical Biochemistry Award

Donated by a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and supported by the Alma Mater Fund. Awarded in the Winter semester. Application not required. [I0281]

Qualification(s): Students with the highest grades in CHEM*3570 Analytical Biochemistry. One award will be made in each semester that the course is offered. Eligible students must be continuing in an honours major program administered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Amount: Two awards of up to $200

J.L. Campbell Scholarship

Established in honour of J.L. (Iain) Campbell, former Provost and Vice-President (Academic), of the University of Guelph from 1995 to 2000 and former Dean of the College of Physical and Engineering Science from 1987 to 1995.Application not required. [I0479]

Qualification(s): Student who is currently registered in one of the majors in Physics and who has completed at least 12.50 credits, with a high cumulative average (at least 80%) in the required Physics courses normally taken in semesters 3, 4, and 5 of the major.

Chemical Institute of Canada Prize

Qualification(s): Student enrolled in an honours major program administered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry who has completed semester 6 in the previous calendar year with the highest cumulative average over 6 semesters in courses in Chemistry and/or Biochemistry.

Amount: One silver medal

Chemistry and Biochemistry Club Prize for Chemistry/Biochemistry Promotion

Donated by the Chemistry-Biochemistry Club, together with the Dean of C.P.E.S. Applicants should submit a one-page type-written summary outlining their efforts to promote the disciplines of chemistry or biochemistry within the University, or the community to the Executive of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Club by February 1st. Criteria: Student at any semester level enrolled in a degree program administered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, who has made a significant contribution to promotion of chemistry or biochemistry.

Amount: One award of $200

College of Physical and Engineering Science Academic Scholarship

Qualification(s): Offered in the Winter semester to students who have completed at least 6 semesters of a College of Physical and Engineering Science program and have excellent grades but have not received awards recently.

Amount: Two awards of $100

College of Physical and Engineering Science Alumni Association Scholarships

Scholarships available to Canadian students for one semester are awarded in the Fall semester to students who have completed semester 4 in the previous Fall, Winter or Spring semesters and are enrolled in semester 5 or higher of a College of Physical and Engineering Science program. Qualification(s): Recipients will be selected on the basis of a high average in courses normally taken in the 3rd and 4th semesters. Students must have been registered in at least 5.00 credits and a minimum 80% average is required.

College of Physical and Engineering Science Graduation Prize

College of Physical and Engineering Science Scholarship

Copernicus Scholarships in Physics

Qualification(s): Students who have completed semester 3 and are registered in semester 4 of one of the majors programs in Physics. To be eligible, students must have completed the courses PHYS*2440 and PHYS*2460 with a minimum of an A average. The awards will be made to the students with the highest average in the Physics courses taken in the first and second semesters and in PHYS*2440 and PHYS*2460.

Amount: Four awards of $500

Egelstaff Scholarship

In honour of University Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Physics, Peter A. Egelstaff. Awarded in the Winter semester. Application not required. [I0397]

Qualification(s): Student who has completed Semester 5, is currently registered in one of the majors in Physics and has a high cumulative average (of at least 80%) in the required Physics courses normally taken in semesters 3, 4, and 5 of the major.

George A. Farley Scholarship

Established in memory of George A. Farley, a chemistry graduate of the Class O.A.C.'33, and presented in the Winter semester. Application not required. [I0099]

Qualification(s): Student enrolled in a Co-op program administered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and who has completed their second work term within the preceding calendar year. Work term reports, work term assessments and course grades will be considered. The student must have a cumulative average of at least 80%.

Amount: One award of $200

Guelph Soap Company Scholarship

The Guelph Soap Company donates this scholarship towards tuition fees, which is awarded in the Winter semester. Application not required. [I0288]

Qualification(s): Student enrolled in the organic chemistry courses CHEM*3750 or CHEM*3760 during the previous calendar year who has obtained the highest average in two courses in each of Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry, and who is continuing in an honours major program administered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Amount: One award of $1,200

Honours Applied Pharmaceutical Chemistry Scholarship

This scholarship is donated by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry through their scholarship trust fund and is awarded annually in the Winter semester. Application not required. [I0454]

Qualification(s): Student enrolled in the B.SC.(Tech.) honours major Applied Pharmaceutical Chemistry program who completed semester 4 in the previous calendar year, and has achieved the highest cumulative average over four semesters, providing that at least 3.00 credits offered by the Department have been taken.

Amount: One award of $1,000

Honours Physics Scholarships

Offered by the Department of Physics, these awards will be made based on the student's admission average. A minimum 85% admission average is required for consideration for this award. [E0132]

Qualification(s): Students entering the first semester level of the B.SC. program or the B.SC.(Tech.) program with high academic standing and a declared intention of pursuing a major in Physics, Physics and Technology, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, or Theoretical Physics, or a Co-op stream of these programs.

Amount: A number of awards of between $1,000 and $6,000

MacNaughton Scholarship

Established by Earl B. MacNaughton, former head of the Department of Physics and founding Dean of the College of Physical Science. Awarded in the Winter semester. Application not required. [I0422]

E.B. MacNaughton Convocation Prize

MacKenzie Scholarship

Qualification(s): Students who have completed semester 5 and are currently registered in one of the majors in physics. It is given to a student with a high cumulative standing (of at least 80%) in the required physics courses normally taken in semesters 3, 4 and 5 of the major.

Moffatt Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the family and friends of the late Professor and Mrs. R. C. Moffatt. This scholarship will be awarded in the Fall semester. Application not required. [I0194]

Qualification(s): Student who has completed semester 4 in one of the previous Fall, Winter or Spring semesters and is enrolled in semester 5 or higher of an honours program in Mathematics, Statistics or Physics. The recipient will be selected on the basis of a high cumulative average (minimum 80% average required) on the work in Mathematics, Statistics and Physics in the first 4 semesters.

Physics Travel Scholarship

This award is given annually to assist students with travel and/or housing costs associated with attending a semester or more of academic study or co-operative work experience at a recognized university outside Canada. Depending on availability of funds, more than one recipient may be selected for this award. Applications must be accompanied by a one-page description of the planned travel, including budget, to the Chair of the Department of Physics at least two months prior to departure. [T0400]

Qualification(s): Student who has completed at least semester 4 of one of the majors in the Physics program with a cumulative average of 80% or greater, and who has obtained a Letter of Permission to attend the University abroad.

J.B. Reynolds Graduation Medal in Physics

Wellington Laboratories Prize in Environmental Chemistry

Qualification(s): Students registered at the time of presentation in the Winter semester in an honours major program offered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry with the highest grade in CHEM*3360 and TOX*3360 Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology in the previous calendar year.

Graham, Fraser, and Trevor Bosch Scholarships in Chemistry and Biochemistry

Established by Mr. Martin Bosch of the Guelph Soap Company, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Students with high academic standing registered in Year 3 (minimum of 10.00 - 14.75 credits) or Year 4 (at least 15.00 credits) of studies will be notified by the Awards Committee and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and advised to complete a Need Assessment Form in Student Financial Services by February 1st. ACCESS AWARD [I4288]

Qualification(s): Outstanding undergraduate students in the B.SC. Chemistry or Biochemistry majors, or in the B.SC.(Tech.) Applied Pharmaceutical Chemistry program, who have demonstrated financial need. The recipients with demonstrated financial need and preference will be given to Year 3 students with the highest cumulative averages in at least three 2000 level chemistry or biochemistry courses taken in Year 2. In the even that there are no qualified candidates in Year 3, students in Year 4 will be considered, based on demonstrated financial need and the highest cumulative averages in at least three 3000 level chemistry and biochemistry courses taken in Year 3. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

MacNaughton Access Scholarships in Physics

Established by Earl B. MacNaughton, former head of the Department of Physics and founding Dean of the College of Physical Science, and faculty, staff and alumni of the Department of Physics, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Students may hold this award more than once. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 7. Awarded in the Winter semester. ACCESS AWARD [I4523]

Qualification(s): Students with demonstrated financial need who are in second year or beyond of a major physics program with a minimum cumulative average of 70% in the required physics courses of that program. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: Four awards of $1,000

C.P.E.S. Dean's Scholarship - ACCESS

Established by a number of industrial, commercial and public sector corporations, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 7. Awarded in the Winter semester. This award may be held once only. ACCESS AWARD [I4527]

Qualification(s): Students with demonstrated financial need registered in any major program in C.P.E.S. in, or beyond, second year. A minimum 80% cumulative average is required. Wellington Laboratories Scholarships

Wellington Laboratories, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program, established this award through an endowment provided by Mr. Brock Chittim of Wellington Laboratories. Highly qualified students will be notified by the Chair of the Department and the Department Awards Committee to complete a Need Assessment Form and submit to Student Financial Services by February 1.
