XIV. General Information

OPIRG-Guelph

OPIRG-Guelph (Ontario Public Interest Research Group - Guelph) is a part of a provincial network of research, popular education, and action organizations. OPIRG works on a variety of environmental and social issues acting as a bridge between the campus and community. Projects include co-founding the Guelph Roundtable on Environment and Economy, the Speed River Cleanup and producing the Community Events Listing. Working groups of OPIRG raise awareness of such issues as political prisoners worldwide, sustainable food growing practices, and the destruction of old-growth forests. OPIRG-Guelph maintains a Resource Centre with books, documents, periodicals, and videos that students can access. The Research for Credit program allows students to apply their course work to community projects. Volunteer opportunities include working groups, the Resource Centre or special events and projects. Core funding (supplemented by grants and donations) is provided per semester through full-time student fees: $4.72 for undergraduates and $4.64 for graduates. The fee is refundable in the first three weeks if requested. OPIRG (ext. 52129 or 824-2091) is located at 1 Trent Lane. OPIRG-Guelph can be reached by email at opirg@uoguelph.ca.
