Entrance Scholarships

Amos & William Lowe Memorial Scholarship [E0158]
Endowed by the late William B. Lowe of Fort Francis, Ontario. Preference will be given first to eligible students from the district of Rainy River, then from the district of Kenora or Thunder Bay, and finally from the remaining districts of Northern Ontario. Application not required. Two awards of $1,250 paid in two installments of $625.

Angelo and Frank Agro Undergraduate Scholarship [E0520]
Provided by the Agro Scholarship Fund. Apply by April 1 to Student Financial Services, including a covering letter describing your activities within 4H (details of 4H club membership, creativity in support of 4H activities, participation in activities and events, volunteer leadership roles, etc.) and a letter of reference from a 4H club official attesting to your involvement. $4,000 ($1,000 annually for four years).

Qualification(s): Full-time students entering semester 1 who have attained a minimum 80% admission average in their graduating year from high school. The scholarship will be awarded to the eligible student demonstrating the greatest past or continuing involvement with 4H activities. Recipients must maintain full-time studies and at least a 70% program average each year for continuation of the award.
Amount: 1 award of $4,000
Board of Governors' Scholarships [E0317]
The scholarship will be paid in eight equal installments with the first and second payments payable shortly after registration in semesters 1 and 2. The 3rd to 8th payments are contingent upon obtaining a minimum average of 80% over the previous two semesters of full-time study. Students who fail to qualify for a payment may re-qualify by subsequently obtaining an 80% or better average over the previous two semesters of full-time study. Application not required. Twenty-five awards of $8,000 ($2,000 annually for 4 years).

Clara E. Elliot Entrance Scholarships [E0095]
Provided by the estate of Clara E. Elliott, MAC '07. This scholarship is payable in 4 annual installments of $2,000. To maintain the award for the second year of study, the recipients must have at least a 77% average and continue to demonstrate the qualities on which the award was given. To maintain the scholarship into the 3rd and 4th years, the recipient must have at least an 80% average in the prior year and continue to demonstrate the qualities on which the award was given. Eligible students admitted to semester 1 will be invited to submit an application. One award of $8,000 ($2,000 annually for 4 years).

Qualification(s): Students entering semester 1 of the B.A.SC. program or the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Housing and Real Estate Management or Marketing Management majors of the B.COMM. program with at least an 80% entrance average. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and evidence of participation in leadership roles as indicated by their application material and reference letters from teachers.

Elite Swine Entrance Scholarship [E0532]
This award is provided by Elite Swine Inc. to assist students entering an OAC undergraduate Program. High schools will forward nominations to the OAC Awards Committee by September 15.

Qualification(s): High school graduates who have applied to OAC undergraduate programs, based on admission average, contributions to their schools and communities and on their potential to become leaders in society. Preference will be given to students with a strong interest in animal science, particularly swine production.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Entrance Scholarship [E0484]
Established by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to encourage high quality high school or transfer students to consider a career in hospitality and tourism management. All entering students can apply for consideration by April 1 to the Hotel and Food Association Awards Committee with a covering letter that includes a statement of interest in the hospitality industry, an official transcript, and a résumé.

Qualification(s): Students entering the B.COMM. program in a major offered by the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management each Fall semester. The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences Awards Committee, on the recommendation of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Awards Committee will select the winners on the basis of academic standing and demonstrated interest and commitment to hospitality and tourism management.

International Student Entrance Scholarships [E0408]
In support of the University's strategic direction of internationalism, entrance scholarships are available each Fall semester to the top international students entering their first semester of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Guelph. Applicants must submit all relevant documentation for admission consideration by March 1 to be considered for a scholarship. These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Application not required.

L.A. Beattie & J.C. Beattie Memorial Scholarship [E0026]
The estate of Jessie L. Beattie has established a scholarship in memory of Lillie Ann Beattie and Jeannie Cockburn Beattie. The scholarship is awarded alternately between the B.A.Sc. (odd-numbered years) and B.COMM. (even-numbered years) programs. Application not required.

Qualification(s): Student entering full-time studies in the B.A.Sc. program or the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Housing and Real Estate Management or Marketing Management majors in the B.Comm. program who has achieved the highest mark in English during the final year of high school. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to students from rural areas.

Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarship [E0493]
These scholarships, named to honour Lincoln Alexander, Chancellor of the University of Guelph and former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, on his 80th birthday, are awarded to academically distinguished entering students who are Aboriginal, persons with a disability or members of a racial minority, and who have made significant contributions to their schools and communities and demonstrated the potential to become leaders in society. These scholarships are intended to enhance student diversity and are amongst the most prestigious entrance awards at the University of Guelph. Nominations are made by high school principals and are to be sent to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, by March 1. Two awards of $20,000 ($5,000 annually for 4 years).

Mac-FACS Alumni Association Centennial Scholarship [E0162]
Established by the Mac-FACS Alumni Association. The winner will be selected from the pool of eligible students not awarded the Clara E. Elliott Education or Entrance Scholarships.

Qualification(s): This scholarship is offered to students entering the B.A.SC. program or the Marketing Management or Housing and Real Estate Management majors of the B.COMM. program with high academic standing and who have shown leadership in community-based volunteer activities. Students who have applied to the above programs will be invited to submit an application.

Mac-FACS Alumni Entrance Scholarship - Marketing and Consumer Studies [E0521]
Established in 1960 by the Mac-FACS Alumni Association and awarded in the Fall semester. Application not required.

Qualification(s): Students in the Housing and Real Estate Management or Marketing Management majors of the B.Comm. program. Selection will be based on the highest admission average. This award is not tenable with the President's Scholarship or the Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarship.

McArthur-Humphries Scholarship [E0183]
Provided by the Wilhelmina McArthur Humphries Trust Fund. This scholarship is awarded to students entering any undergraduate degree program and are based on the highest admission average. Application not required.

Qualification(s): Students entering semester 1 with a minimum 75% admission average. Preference will be given to those students from Lanark and Wellington Counties. An equal number of awards are available to students from each county. In the case of insufficient eligible applicants from one county, the awards will be given to eligible applicants from the other county.

P.A.J. Clarke Family Scholarship [E0381]
Paul and Aileen Clarke and their family established the endowment for this entrance scholarship in honour of Paul's father, the late Jack Clarke, a Blenheim area farmer. Apply by letter outlining extracurricular and/or community activities, ensuring that you have completed a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards, and submit to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive information on completing a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. This award is not tenable with the President's or Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarship. Annual payments are contingent upon full-time enrolment and maintaining a minimum 70% average on the previous Fall and Winter semesters. One award of $12,000 ($3,000 annually for 4 years).

Qualification(s): Students with a minimum 80% average with a record of leadership and community participation are eligible. Preference will be given to candidates from Blenheim district or Kent County and who were raised, or have worked, on a farm. Students may be contacted to provide special need circumstances if there is a short list of equal candidates.

President's Scholarship [E0238]
The most prestigious entrance awards at the University of Guelph. Twelve scholarships of $20,000 ($5,000 annually), named to honour their donors or distinguished members of the University, are awarded to entering students of academic distinction who have made significant contributions to their schools and communities and demonstrated the potential to become leaders in society. Nomination packages are sent to Canadian high schools each fall. This award is tenable with the University of Guelph Entrance Scholarship, the University of Guelph Accessibility Scholarship or the Regsitrar's Entrance Scholarship, but no other Entrance Scholarships.. High school principals must submit their nominations using the application material sent to the school's Guidance Office in the fall, to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, by March 1.

Two of the scholarships, endowed by Dr. Patrick Lett are awarded to winners whose leadership qualities best reflect those demonstrated by Dick Brown in University Athletics from 1968 to 1988.
Cecil H. Franklin and Ingrid Franklin
In honour of Cecil Franklin, former Chair of the Board of Governors and Honorary Fellow of the University, the University of Guelph has named one of these twelve prestigious entrance awards to recognize his financial contributions and volunteer support to the President's Entrance Scholarship program.
Charles S. Humphrey
In memory of Charles S. Humphrey, a former President of Hart Chemical Company Canada Ltd. and long-time friend, the University has named one of these twelve prestigious entrance awards to recognize his financial contribution through his estate to the President's Entrance Scholarship program.
Jack R. Longstaffe
The University of Guelph has named one of these twelve prestigious entrance awards in memory of Jack R. Longstaffe to recognize his financial contribution through his estate to the President's Entrance Scholarship program.
Burton C. Matthews
The University of Guelph has named one of these twelve prestigious entrance awards in honour of Burton C. Matthews to recognize his insight and leadership in establishing the President's Entrance Scholarship program.
Kathleen and Frederick Metcalf
Mr. and Mrs. F.T. Metcalf of Guelph have endowed this award. After a distinguished career in cable TV, broadcasting and publishing, the late Mr. Metcalf retired as President of Maclean Hunter Ltd. and Chairman of the Board of Maclean Hunter Cable Ltd. He was Honorary Chairman of Maclean Hunter Cable Ltd. and a member of the University of Guelph Heritage Board (1996).
Rol-land Farms Limited
Two of the scholarships are endowed by the four shareholders of Rol-land Farms Limited of Blenheim, Ontario, Hank, Peter, Arthur and Eric Vander Pol and their families. The Vander Pol families are generous supporters of a number of University projects and programs.
Lillian Stewart Usher
The University of Guelph has named one of these twelve prestigious entrance awards in honour of Lillian Stewart Usher a friend of the University to recognize her financial contribution through her estate to the President's Entrance Scholarship program.
Qualification(s): Entering students of academic distinction who have made significant contributions to their schools and communities and demonstrated the potential to become leaders in society.

The Jack and Lillian MacDonald Scholarship [E0379]
Family, friends, and colleagues of Lillian MacDonald and Dr. Jack MacDonald, Vice-President, Academic, of the University of Guelph from 1986 to 1995, have established a scholarship that recognizes their commitment to increasing the accessibility of post-secondary education to aboriginal persons. Apply by letter to Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualification(s): In the first instance, the award will be given to an entering student coming from the Grand River Polytechnical Institute (GRPI) and who has received the highest cumulative average in the Native University Access Program. If there is no entering student in any one year, the scholarship will be awarded to the in-course student who is a graduate of the GRPI who has the highest cumulative average at the University.
Amount: 1 award of $900
University of Guelph Entrance Scholarships [E0291]
This scholarship is based on the final admission average and program of study that is calculated by Admission Services, based on 12U, 12M, or OAC courses. These will be awarded based on the final high school grades that are submitted to the University in July. A minimum 85% final admission average guarantees an award. The scholarship will be applied directly to the student's financial account in two equal payments in the Fall and Winter Semesters. University of Guelph Faculty Association Scholarship [E0292]
Award is payable at $750 per annum in the student's 1st, 3rd, and 5th semester levels, provided a cumulative average of at least a 70% is maintained. To receive the final payment, the recipient would normally be entering the 5th semester level within a period of 3 calendar years from the date of admission. Application not required.

Qualification(s): Student entering an undergraduate degree program at the University of Guelph with the highest admission average who has been a resident in the County of Wellington during the previous twelve months.

W. Penri Morris Memorial Scholarship [E0430]
Established by the family in memory of Penri Morris, who was killed World War II action in 1944 at the age of 21. Penri grew up on the family fruit farm near Forest, Ontario. After graduating from high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was attached to the Royal Air Force Bomber Command as a navigator at the time of this death. Awarded to the student with the highest cumulative academic performance above 75% in all courses of the last year in high school study (full-time or equivalent study). Application not required.
