Certificate in Civic Engagement and Global Citizenship

The value of combining a sense of self as a global citizen with the dynamic nature of civic engagement can result in a practical, informed and hopeful approach to addressing complex local and global problems shaped by different cultures, political systems and environments. The certificate in Civic Engagement and Global Citizenship aims provide students with a critical understanding and awareness of the complexity of world and the value of their disciplines as contributing to interdisciplinary approaches to solving problems. Students will explore how the diversity of people and privilege in the world contributes to both problems and solutions while having an opportunity to reflect upon their own place and privilege. They will develop the knowledge, skills, and values required to develop a sense of themselves as empowered citizens and community members who can undertake thoughtful, respectful and creative action for better communities at home and abroad.
