Agnes Varis Scholarship in Women's Studies [I0596]
Established by Dr. Agnes Varis, founder and president of Agar Chemicals. The award is provided to the student who has a passion and commitment for advancing education for women as demonstrated by a major (or double major) in Women's Studies. Preference will be given to those students whose application letter or C.V. demonstrates an understanding that women who benefit from advanced education must help other women advance in society, through community, mentorship and teaching roles. Allison Kane Memorial Entrepreneurial Prize [I0919]
Established by her friends and family in memory of Allison Marie Kane, a former University of Guelph student who was a well-respected leader in her community who had a vibrant personality and expressed her entrepreneurial spirit by returning to her family business after graduation. The student who demonstrates the highest level of commitment to community-based entrepreneurial activities including but not limited to working with clients on community-based projects through the John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise, volunteer experiences, or extra-curricular activities; and who best describes how their experiences with community-based entrepreneurial projects have positively impacted their perspective on community involvement. This scholarship was created and funded by the Kapadia Family and Department of Chemistry, in the memory of Ms. Amina Kapadia who died with her parents in a tragic house fire on February 14, 2017 with the hope of fostering the enthusiasm that Amina personified. Amina was an outgoing, engaging, and engaged student. Selection is based on highest grade in CHEM*1040 and in the event of a tie, the student with the highest cumulative average will be selected.

Named in honour of Professor Bill Braithwaite, a retired faculty member who taught business courses at the University of Guelph for 50 years. Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview with the LANG Awards Committee. Bridge Builder Scholarship [I1050]
The Muslim Society of Guelph has established this award to recognize a student who demonstrates a passion and commitment for building bridges in the local community. Apply to Student Financial Services by May 15th with a one page letter outlining the volunteer activities that lead to social connections, breaking down barriers, and/or furthering intercultural and interfaith understanding to support vulnerable or marginalized people through one or more of the following: Civic engagement by facilitating community engagement, social integration and volunteerism to promote inclusion for immigrant and ethno-cultural communities; Social connections by promoting social connections and employment networking, including programs that reduce barriers and increase support for vulnerable groups; Education and empowerment by promoting intercultural understanding and break down barriers to participation in community life and decision-making. This scholarship, created through an endowment established by CFRU Alumni, was established to recognize students who have supported the operation and furthered the goals of CFRU. This scholarship was created in honour of Donald Broadfoot who graduated from OAC in 1950. He worked for Hy-Line Poultry (a division of Pioneer Corn Company) in the US and Canada from 1950-1974 where he conducted disease and genetic research, and during that time did a lot of work which led up to effective treatments for various diseases in poultry. Linda S. Allen Memorial Graduation Prize [C0914]
This award was established in memory of Linda S. Allen, who served many years as a program counsellor for the BSc program and as an instructor of mathematics and statistics, receiving the Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising Medallion, on the occasion of its second awarding in 2005. She worked tirelessly to help countless students, but she was especially supportive of students who had suffered setbacks and were working to get their programs back on track. She was also a wonderful mentor to younger program counsellors. The recipient will be the student who best demonstrates tenacity and persistence in overcoming significant circumstances during their studies. This student will best demonstrate their hard work in overcoming a significant issue and took the necessary steps to get their academic careers on track as demonstrated by the fact that they are graduating. If two or more students demonstrate significant circumstances in pursuit of their degree, the student graduating with the highest cumulative average over their last four semesters (10 credits) will be chosen. Established by Dr. John Munn in memory of his mother Mary Alice (Harris) Munn, who for more than 50 years sang, played, taught, led choirs, and instilled her love of music in the Ripley and Kincardine area, and his sister Marion Catherine Munn, who followed her mother's example as a singer and choir leader. The scholarships will be awarded to the student who best combines excellent potential in the area of vocal studies with involvement in extra-curricular music activities, particularly choir or other forms of vocal performance. Established by his wife, Joan, and his family, this award was created in memory of "Pickin' Pete" Peter Lindley (OAC '57). Peter was a 5th generation fruit and vegetable grower in the Halton Wentworth Counties, yet still found time to volunteer and stay involved within OAC, and many agricultural initiatives. Because of his outstanding contributions to agriculture, he was inducted to the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2015. Colonel Kevin Reed and is a unique program providing undergraduate scholarships to children of fallen soldiers. Summerlee Humanitarian Scholarships [I0964]
The Summerlee Humanitarian Scholarships are dedicated in the name of the seventh vice-chancellor of the University of Guelph, Dr. Alastair Summerlee. These scholarships reward students who have significantly engaged in humanitarian issues of global importance and provide them with a further opportunity to continue their work and build connections that lead to lasting change. Interested students should apply by March 1st to Student Financial Services with a letter describing i) how their past activities significantly furthered humanitarian efforts (maximum 500 words) and ii) how they intend to continue to make an impact on a global level (maximum 500 words). The letter must be accompanied by two letters of reference as well as a budget that includes fundraising goals and outlines the cost of their planned international travel and/or conference attendance (if applicable). Five students will be selected based on their ability to demonstrate significant past humanitarian efforts, potential to make further impact based on their proposed international plans (including budget and fundraising goals), and strength of reference letters.
