Starting in 2017-18, the Ontario Student Grant (OSG) will be offered through the consolidation of the Ontario Student Opportunity Grant (OSOG) and other previous OSAP grants.
By packaging all of the grants together at the time that OSAP is released, students will know the repayable portion of their funding immediately.
OSAP funding that was released up to and including the 2016-17 funding year will still be eligible for the OSOG grant.
Determining OSOG grant amounts is an automatic process that is performed annually by the Ministry. The grant is paid directly to the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) to pay down a portion of a student's loan balance. Students are eligible once their, and their parents' or spouse's income (if applicable), is verified with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The OSOG grant is usually applied to a student's loan account the year after a student has borrowed. For example, if you had an OSAP loan for the 2016-17 academic year, your OSOG would be processed in late 2017 or early 2018.
