Are you a returning student applying for OSAP?
You might notice some changes.
8 things you need to know:
- More assistance than ever before through the new Ontario Student Grant. Some students’ tuition will be fully covered by the grant.
- Some previous OSAP grants, including the 30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant and the Ontario Student Opportunity Grant, have been consolidated to form the Ontario Student Grant.
- Students will not receive less than they did through the 30% Off Grant. The OTG-only application is no longer available. Students apply for grants using a single OSAP application.
- Students offered a combination of grants and loans can choose to accept only the grant funding.
- Grants and loans can be impacted if the income tax return(s) associated with the OSAP application is/are not filed on time.
- Eligibility for the new OSAP grant is not restricted to recent high school graduates. Mature students can qualify.
- The Ontario Student Opportunity Grant will still apply to loans received prior to Fall 2017. Changes to OSAP beginning Fall 2017 will not affect previous OSAP debt.
- The Education and Textbook tax credits are being phased out, starting in 2017.
Apply early and get ready for the Fall semester! We recommend applying at least 8 weeks before the start of the semester.
