Description
Action Canada [1] and Public Policy Forum [2] have joined forces to present the Action Canada Fellowship, a 10-month national leadership development and policy engagement program. This program brings together emerging leaders to experience the country through immersive study tours and to develop leadership skills that will help them shape policy change for years to come.
Eligibility
Candidates must be between the ages of 20-35 at the time of application. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Funding Availability
Travel and accommodation costs for all components of the program are covered by PPF, according to federal government travel directives. Meals are also provided as part of each study tour program.
Project Duration
The program will begin on June 1, 2018 and conclude on March 31, 2019 (10-months total). Fellows must be available to travel and participate in five, four-to-eight-day (scheduled around weekends) intensive study tours during the program. Study tours will be held in different cities across Canada, including but not limited to Calgary, Winnipeg and Montreal. Participation in this program is to be undertaken in conjunction with the applicant’s regular work or studies.

The candidate’s letter should include information about:
o Importance of the program for the current stage of the candidate’s life;
o The candidate’s future career plans;
o Importance of civic engagement to the candidate, and desire to make a contribution to Canada;
o Candidate’s ability to transform ideas into action;
o Candidate’s ability to respect and understand new and different perspectives in addressing public policy issues;
o Candidate’s views on how an individual creates change and the circumstances for change.
The candidate’s statement should respond to the following question: In policy making, science and evidence can clash with values and perspectives. What should take precedence and why?
