Description
Overview
This program funds innovative research that uses sport as a setting or tool to promote mental health among young men in Canada. Grants of up to CAD $180,000 are available for projects starting in early 2026, with a duration of up to 24 months.
Goals
- Address gaps in early intervention and prevention for young men's mental health.
 - Use community or individualized sports (e.g., team sports, rock climbing, gym) to create impact.
 
Focus Areas
Applicants must target one of the following:
- Design of sports programs (sport as the intervention)
 - Policies for sports programs
 - Interventions delivered in sports settings
 
Priority Themes
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
 - Psychological safety for athletes, parents and coaches
 - Technology and digital engagement
 
Eligibility
- Must be a Postdoctoral Fellow or Early Career Researcher (within 7 years of PhD, excluding career interruptions).
 - Must be affiliated with a Canadian institution.
 - Requires a qualified supervisor or mentor.
 - Institution must be open to providing Monetary or in-kind contribution to the project (i.e., teaching release time).
 - Able to leverage partnerships with industry/delivery partners.
