Agnico Eagle Mines’ Meadowbank Complex

Description

Agnico Eagle Mines’ Meadowbank Complex is pleased to invite study proposals from interested professionals for research projects related to fish and fish habitat in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut. This initiative will join a suite of complementary measures to fulfill Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)’s fish habitat offsetting requirements for Agnico Eagle Mines’ Meadowbank Complex.

Research projects must be aimed at closing current knowledge gaps regarding the biology and habitat requirements of northern freshwater fish species. Directions may also include (but are not limited to) development and validation of monitoring tools and/or characterizing responses of fish species to anthropogenic influence. Studies are not required to be related to impacts of mining and should not specifically rely on mine operations. A field study element is encouraged, but laboratory and/or mesocosm components may also be included. Relevance to regionally important fish species must be demonstrated. Submission of manuscript(s) for peer-reviewed publication is a required target for all studies.

Eligibility

Interested researchers are encouraged to submit concise proposals (2 – 3 pages) outlining proposed study objectives, methodologies, deliverables/research outputs, timelines and itemized budget estimates, specifying the total requested contribution from Agnico Eagle.
