Professor Flavio Schenkel’s research focuses on quantitative genomics; how genomics can be used for animal breeding purposes. As a professor, he has been working with various Brazilian academic institutions since 2005. More recently, in a partnership with FAPESP and the Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP) Prof. Schenkel has been involved as the co-applicant in a project concerning genetic improvement of economic traits in Nellore cattle. Throughout the years, Professor Schenkel has hosted various Brazilian MSc and PhD students, as well as post-doctoral fellows. In addition to his research, he has also co-authored a number of publications with Brazilian collaborators, and will be giving a speech at the Brazilian Society of Animal Breeding when he visits in September, 2015. Professor Flavio Schenkel looks forward to continuing partnerships with Brazil in the future.
