Position available: Research Project Co-Ordinator in Soil Science

Research Project Co-Ordinator, Temporary full-time 15 August 2019 to 31 March 2025

Reporting to Claudia Wagner-Riddle, Professor, the Research Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordination of activities within a large graduate student training program in soil science involving multiple researchers from Universities across Canada and collaborators from the food and agricultural industries, NGOs, farmer organizations and governments.  This will include administrative duties such as tracking student progress, organization of project events, facilitation of communication between researchers, students and collaborators and day-to-day operation of the project. 

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinates workshops, seminars, meetings and small-scale events;
  • Administrative duties, such as transcribing meeting minutes, drafting correspondence, helping with travel and expense claims, and with human resources forms. Note: coordinator would work with SES staff who would process claims, but coordinator would help/guide team members on how to do claims
  • Coordinates and maintains research documentation and records, including those required to meet regulatory compliance and quality assurance
  • Processing of basic financial transactions, invoices, purchase orders. Note: coordinator would work with SES clerk and administrative assistant but there their role would be to track expenses and make sure they are according to planned budget
  • Contacts and schedules project participants coordinating logistics such as room bookings and materials
  • Administers surveys to research participants, and records responses
  • Updates social media, websites and other communication based upon approved guidelines and materials
  • Participate in the development of promotional strategies and related materials to encourage research support and recruitment of participants
  • Coordinates and assists with the preparation of research documentation
  • Writes and updates standard operating procedures
  • Participate on committees to determine (support?) logistics & structure of program
    • Interact with students & help them navigate the program requirements

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with preference given to degrees in environmental or agriculture related field
  • Two years working experience with project coordination or management 
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience (Bachelors +4 years' experience)
  • Demonstrated communication, leadership, mentoring, teamwork and group process skills
  • Demonstrated well developed personal/interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, including prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines
  • Flexibility and creativity in the workplace
  • Knowledge and skill with computer technology in preparing documents, working with spreadsheets, word processing, email and internet applications
  • Knowledge, skill and interest in social media networks
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work effectively with large teams

 

The successful candidate must be willing to work flexible hours when required. A valid G driving license is required. This position requires a motivated, reliable, and well organized person, able to work in a multi-disciplinary group environment.
