What are GTA/UTAs, GSAs and GRAs?

The distinction between Students as Students and Students as Employees is critical. In accordance with the CUPE3913 Collective Agreement, which is an Employment contract, these roles are separate, files are kept separately, and employment performance is separate from academic performance (and vice versa).  Also, take the important distinction between TAs and RAs:

GTA/UTA = A graduate or undergraduate student who is employed by the University as a Teaching Assistant.

Can TAs be assigned more than a 1.0 work assignment?

Academic units assign work on the basis of Levels of Consideration (LoC) (see: Overview of the Assessment of TA/GSA-1 Applications).

LoC 4 requires that candidates who have already been assigned a full 1.0 work assignment (normally equaling 140 hours) in their home academic unit have to wait to be assigned additional work over candidates in Levels 2 and 3 who have not reached the equivalent of 1.0.

As per 13.02(b): Evaluations can rate employees as “Satisfactory”, “Improvement Required” or “Unsatisfactory”.
