NUTR*4330 is taught to third and fourth year students in the NANS BSc program. It deals with how to design and run human clinical trials of functional foods and natural health products and how to use the evidence collected in publications and regulatory applications for these products. The instructor must have direct experience working and ideally running or managing human nutrition studies Familiarity with human research ethics and biosafety protocols is essential The ideal applicant will have had extensive involvement in human research, such that he or she is able to draw on personal experiences for insight in small group discussion and walk students through the execution of a human nutrition study from hypothesis development, study design, approvals, execution, sample analysis, data entry and analysis and publication. The instructor must have excellent oral communication skills and be comfortable facilitating small group interactions. Familiarity with ESHA Food Processor diet analysis software and Health Canada's framework for regulating and approving health claims and natural health products is preferred.
