Office of Student Accountability
Accountability is all about taking ownership of your actions, the impacts they have on others, and building a way forward. Being a Gryphon is a commitment to upholding fundamental rights and responsibilities as a member of the University of Guelph community.
The Office of Student Accountability (OSA) is dedicated to procedural fairness and providing opportunities for students to learn and grow as individuals as they reflect on critical incidents that may shape their experience.
What we do
Our office upholds the Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy which has been developed in line with the University’s commitment to integrity and maintaining a safe, welcoming, equitable, and supportive learning community. We understand that policies can be a lot to take in; we’re here to help make it easier to understand and provide you with guidance along the way.
If you have a concern for a student’s behaviour or if someone has reported your behaviour, we offer multiple resolution pathways to help address the concerns. Our aim is to help you maintain a positive and safe learning environment and we do this through restorative and educational approaches that help those involved understand the impact they have on others, the U of G community and themselves.
What can you expect
Generally, we start with a conversation. We meet with different people involved in a matter to gather more information to help us understand what happened, who was impacted and how can harm can be repaired.
From there, we decide what the best pathway is to help resolve the matter. This can involve follow-up meetings, determining responsibility or policy violations, assigning outcomes and/or initiating a hearing process.
Overall, our goal is to ensure that you feel heard, have a fair process and that we appropriately address concerns brought forward.
