START on Campus
Are you a student who: wants to meet hundreds of other first year students, wants tips on being successful, will be living off-campus or commuting to Guelph, or is unsure why you are going to University? Join us for STARTonCampus, a summer event that prepares you for staring at U of G.

Join us live every Thursday at 2:00 pm for STARTonCampus, your weekly new student event. With a new topic every week, we make sure you’re ready for Fall 2020. STARTonCampus - Living is Thursday, July 9th 2-3:30pm for a discussion about Residence, Living at Home and Living Off-Campus in Guelph.

START Indigenous
A two-day program designed to help new First Nations, Métis and Inuit undergraduate students and their families learn more about life at Guelph, what kinds of supports are available, and the many people who are here to help you succeed. Visit for more information and to register.

START International
An orientation program for new international students, new permanent residents to Canada, new exchange students and out-of-country Canadians. The program will introduce you to the campus environment, the resources available to aid in your social and academic transition, and what you can expect from your University of Guelph experience. START Together 
A social event held in the fall and winter semesters for black and minority ethnic students. Students can become familiar with resources, services, and identity-based student groups on campus in a cozy setting at the 5th, an on-campus restaurant. Cultural groups have the chance to connect with first-year students to share information about their clubs and any upcoming events. O-Week programming will not only prepare you to walk confidently into your first class and being your academic journey at the U of G, it will also connect you with new classmates, help you discover campus life and give you the opportunity to start forming the relationships and community you’ll need to thrive here. Meet with an upper-year student

Sign up for Bounce Back and START on Track here. All first year students are automatically enroled in Gryphons Nest.

Gryphons Nest
If you are a new student joining us virtually from off-campus, you will be a part of a virtual community in the fall semester. Led by upper-year students (Online Community Mentors) and professional staff, new students will meet their community of approximately 40 other students from their academic program during Orientation Week. You’ll receive both one-to-one and group support from your Online Community Mentor on meeting other students, academic success, wellness, and be connected to fun events.  

Bounce Back (Winter Semester)
A winter semester program for first years whose first semester was more challenging then they were expecting. Students get paired with an upper-year student who can help address challenges and find a path towards success. For more information about the program and how to get matched with a Bounce Back Facilitator, email

START on Track (Fall Semester)
A program designed for all new undergraduate students who want to start university off on the right foot. New students are encouraged to meet with one of our STARTonTrack Facilitators (awesome upper-year students) to talk about how life at university is going so far, discuss challenges or setbacks, help set goals for the semester and make the most of your Gryphon experience.
