Municipal Mentors is a program designed to bridge the gap between UofG students and what happens at the level of city government. It is an amazing opportunity to learn about how municipal politics works and to participate more directly in city governance. As a successful applicant to Municipal Mentors, you will be paired up with a City of Guelph Councillor in a 1-to-1 mentoring relationship, attend meetings, receive exceptional training and support, and make important connections with other students, citizens and local leaders.
Municipal Mentors participants will:
- commit 3-5 hours/week to the program
- meet with their mentor regularly
- attend City Council meetings
- reflect on their learning with a group of participating students and complete reflection papers
- participate in regular group meetings and trainings
- complete a capstone project
- share about their learning experience with other UofG students.
Timing & Selection of Mentees:
- Municipal Mentors applications are usually due in late September
- Applicants attend a group interview and applicants are selected by mid-October
- The program runs for ~8 weeks in the fall semester and 12 weeks in the winter semester
