Dr. Peter Purslow's Lab - Cell mechanotransduction

We examine how mechanical, hormonal, nutritional and cytokine stimuli change the expression of muscle and connective tissue-forming cells (fibroblasts), and the cell signalling pathways controlling this.
 
Areas of interest include: - changes in matrixmetalloproteinase expression from myocytes and fibroblasts due to oxidative stress, catecholamines and beta- agonists - control of the turnover and synthesis of extracellular matrix ( connective tissue) components within muscle - fluid shear stimulation of epithelial cells (including those of the GI tract)
