Transfer of Research Stations, Colleges to ARIO Announced

The transfer of 14 agricultural research stations and the three agriculture colleges at Ridgetown, Kemptville and Alfred to the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario from the Ontario Realty Corporation was announced today at the University of Guelph by Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

"Today's announcement brings a heightened sense of optimism to the industry and its stakeholders and lets us know that the government is committed to positioning its research and education investments in a manner that lends itself to a solid future for agriculture in Ontario," said Alan Wildeman, U of G's vice-president (research).

"This decision reaffirms the government's support of agriculture and our unique relationship with them under the OMAFRA contract. This is great news."
