Gryphons Win Three OUA Titles

The University’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams and women’s rugby team won Ontario University Athletics titles on the weekend.

The cross-country teams successfully defended their provincial titles. Coach Dave Scott-Thomas was named Coach of the Year in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

The cross-country teams will now be heading to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) tournament Nov. 11 in Quebec City. The women will defend their national title, and the men hope to capture their first national title in four years.

The women’s rugby team beat last year’s provincial and national champions, the University of Western Ontario, 7 to 5. This is the eighth time in 13 years U of G’s women’s team has won the provincial rugby title. They will compete at the CIS championship in London, Ont., Nov. 3.
