Summerlee Featured On CBC National Radio

President Alastair Summerlee was featured on the new CBC Radio program This I Believe Thursday morning. The program will air again at 8 p.m. on CBC Radio One.

Summerlee read a short essay about his recent trip to Africa with World University Service of Canada. In the essay, he stresses the importance of Canada helping countries in conflict and discusses the lessons he learned about humility and the indomitable spirit of the human mind. His reading is based on an At Guelph column he wrote about his journey.

This I Believe is a new CBC Radio project that engages Canadians in writing and sharing the core values and beliefs that guide their daily lives. It is based on a 1950s radio program of the same name, hosted by acclaimed journalist Edward R. Murrow.

People submit essays about their beliefs, selected works are posted on the show’s website, and the author also records his or her submission to be played on the radio.

CBC also commissions essays from prominent Canadians known for their achievements in their communities, nationally or on the international stage. To date, the program has featured Beverley McLachlin, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada; Rick Hansen, an Olympic wheelchair athlete and advocate; James Loney, a Canadian who was held hostage in Iraq; and David Chilton, a well-known author.
