Regional Universities/Campuses to take part in Job Fair 2002

The University of Guelph, along with the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College, is sponsoring the eighth annual Job Fair Feb. 6 as part of Partnerships for Employment. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at RIM Park in Waterloo.

More than 3,500 students are expected to attend. Free busing is being provided from all participating campuses. "Despite the current down-turn in our economy our joint Job Fair is still flourishing," said Bill Pires, employer development and marketing officer in Guelph's Student Life and Career Services department. He added that the participating schools have a "solid track-record" of running successful fairs. "Students and alumni from the schools in this region are first-rate too, which is one of the reasons employers keep returning to our fairs every year, especially if their recruitment resources have been reduced."

The Job Fair will attract close to 125 employers from across Ontario as well as Québec, British Columbia, Alberta and the United States. They will be hiring students from all disciplines for summer, permanent, contract, co-op and/or part-time opportunities. The employers represent a cross-section of industries including communications, robotics, finance and accounting, government and non-profit, health care and pharmaceutical, agribusiness and agriculture, sales and marketing, law enforcement, retail and service providers, recreation camps and hospitality, software and information technology, manufacturing, operations management and logistics, and social services.

Participating employers include: Cargill Foods, Clarica (IT and Finance), Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Electronic Arts of Canada, NCR Canada, Public Service Commission, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Research in Motion, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Camp Trillium - Childhood Cancer Support, CIS Robotics/Flow Software Technologies, Ministry of Transport, AC Nielsen Company of Canada, Rogers Cable, Lutherwood-CODA, Husky Injection Molding Systems, Outland Reforestation, The Estate Wine Group, ATS Automation Tooling Systems, and Raytheon Canada.
