Families and work in the 21st Century topic of Harshman lecture
The University of Guelph's Harshman Lecture Series is being held Nov. 16 with a Guelph alumna speaking on the future of families.
Shelley McDermid, director for the Center for Families at Purdue University, will speak on "Forward into Yesterday: Families and Work in the 21st Century." The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in Room 149 of Macdonald Hall. The talk is open to the public, although seating is limited.
The lecture is sponsored by the H.H. Harshman Foundation and the University's Centre for Families, Work and Well-Being. The series has been held most years since 1978. The Harshman foundation also provides scholarships to undergraduate students in the Departments of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition and Consumer Studies in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, and supports a visiting professor.
McDermid, whose research focuses on relationships between job conditions and family life, holds degrees from Guelph in business management and human development and family studies.
