Metals focus of U of G toxicology symposium
The University of Guelph's Toxicology Students' Association is hosting the 17th annual Toxicology Symposium March 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 1714 of the Lifetime Learning Centre at the Ontario Veterinary College. The event is open to the public.
The theme of the symposium is "Toxicology of Metals: Environmental and Medical Implications." Speakers will explore issues surrounding the impacts metal have on the environment and human health.
Program Highlights:
• "Occupational Health & Safety: Occupational Nuclear Medicine." David Chettle, McMaster University professor.
• "Plant and Crop Metal Uptake." Beverley Hale, University of Guelph professor.
• "Naturopathic Medical Issues Related to Metal Toxicity." Caroline Harvey-Smith, naturopathic practitioner.
• "Mercury in the Aquatic Environment." Togwell Jackson, National Water Research Institution scientist.
• "Lead and Women's Health Issues." Fiona McNeill, McMaster University professor.
• "Mining and Metals in Industry." Chris Wren, ESG International.
The fee for the full conference is $20 or $15 for students and includes a luncheon and refreshments. Tickets can be purchased Feb. 26 to 28 in the MacNaughton building foyer or can be reserved by contacting Vanessa Juneau at toxsa@uoguelph.ca.
