United Way campaign raises $300,000, exceeds goal

The U of G community raised more than $300,000 for the United Way during its annual campaign, exceeding its goal of $285,000.

“It’s truly remarkable and very reassuring to know that year after year, we manage to exceed our goal,” says president Alastair Summerlee. “This is a reflection of the values of our university community. Congratulations to every volunteer and donor.”

The $285,000 fundraising goal was reached prior to the closing of the campaign Dec. 1 – a first for U of G. “We should all be very proud,” says Toni Pellizzari, campaign co-chair.

About 160 University staff served as co-ordinators and canvassers for the campus campaign. “This university never lacks support for the United Way,” Pellizzari says. “Our thanks goes out first and foremost to all the dedicated and terrific volunteers and the hundreds of donors – faculty, staff, students and retirees. Through their generosity, we are once again able to offer support to those less fortunate in our community.”

More than 46 local organizations in Guelph and Wellington County receive financial support from the United Way, including youth services at Wyndam House, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph and Hospice Wellington.
