11th annual Job Fair to be held Feb. 4

The University of Guelph, along with the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College, is sponsoring the 11th annual Job Fair Feb. 4. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at RIM Park in Waterloo.

The fair is expected to attract more than 4,000 students, graduates and alumni and more than 130 employers from across Ontario as well as Québec, British Columbia, Alberta and the United States, an increase over past years. Employers will be hiring students from all disciplines for summer, permanent, contract, co-op and/or part-time opportunities.

“This is good news for students, graduates and alumni who are currently seeking work,” said Jamie Perry, acting director of U of G's Student Life and Career Services. All of the participating employers plan to hire within the next six months, he added.

Free busing is being provided from all participating campuses, and a complete bus schedule is available online.

Sponsored by Partnerships for Employment, which represents the area’s four post-secondary institutions, the fair features employers from virtually ever sector, including agribusiness, financial services, manufacturing, police services, government and information technology.

Participating employers include: AGRICORP, AC Nielsen Company of Canada, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, Nestle Waters Canada, Toyota Canada Inc., Christie Digital Systems Canada Inc., RBC Financial Group and Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada.

The first Job Fair was held in 1994. U of G, Conestoga College, Wilfred Laurier University and the University of Waterloo were the first post-secondary institutions in Canada to jointly offer an annual job fair. Since then, other educational institutions have introduced similar events.

Further information is available on the Partnerships for Employment web page.
