Silent auction will aid tsunami victims

Students for Tsunami Relief at the University of Guelph is holding a silent auction Feb. 4 to raise money for tsunami victims. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 103 of the University Centre. It is open to the University community and general public.

Items to be auctioned include gift certificates and products donated by local stores, such as clothing and collectibles. There will also be an ongoing bake sale in the UC. All proceeds will go to UNICEF’s tsunami relief effort.

Students for Tsunami Relief is a coalition of various U of G clubs and students working to support relief efforts. They include the Central Student Association, Guelph Pagan Society, International Development Society, Muslim Students Association, Pakistani Student Federation, Tamil Students Association, and the West Indian Students Association, as well as the Guelph chapter of Save the Children and the University’s Student Life & Career Services.

“The focus of this campaign is to help aid those who are affected by suffering from the tsunami disaster,” says Sadique Patel, a fourth-year computing science student and member of Students for Tsunami Relief. “This teamwork is a reminder of how important it is for us all to support and care for each other, not only in times of disaster but on a consistent basis.”
