Research in Motion CEO to speak
The University of Guelph’s Office of Open Learning, in collaboration with the Office for Partnerships for Advanced Skills (OPAS), is presenting “Visionary Seminar 2001,” a video conference featuring Mike Lazaridis, president and CEO of Research in Motion (RIM), Nov. 7 at the River Run Centre.
Lazaridis, recipient of the Visionary Award for 2001 from the Office of Partnerships for Advanced Skills (OPAS), will discuss “Wireless Breakthroughs,” at 12:15 p.m. The free event will be preceded by a complimentary lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. It is open to the public, but advance registration is required by calling 767-5000.
In 2000, RIM was ranked No. 21 in Profit magazine’s listing of the Top 100 fastest-growing Canadian companies. Lazaridis will share his vision for the future of his company and the industry, his thoughts on research requirements and the skills he believes will be required of graduates entering the workforce.
The event is also being sponsored by the Guelph Chamber of Commerce and Bell. OPAS is a partnership of all Ontario universities and leading Canadian companies dedicated to advancing the competencies of organizations and individuals.
