Political science prof named to expert panel

Prof. O.P. Dwivedi, Department of Political Science, has been named to an exclusive United Nations panel examining how globalization is affecting governments' ability to serve their people.

Dwivedi is one of seven scholars worldwide selected for the Group of Experts of the United Nations Program in Public Administration and Finance. Each expert has been assigned a part of the world to analyse. Dwivedi will cover all of Asia except the Middle East, researching and reporting on government reforms in policies and structures and the future prospects for reform of each Asian nation.

"I was pleasantly surprised and delighted by this appointment," Dwivedi said. "Generally, scholars from Asia are asked to write about Asian developments, so to be asked to do this as an expert from North America is an honour."

Dwivedi's appointment follows his election last year as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a semester as International Scholar at Loyola Marymount University in California.

His research will focus on how the developing nations of Asia are coping with globalization.
