U of G Runner Named CIS Athlete of the Week

University of Guelph cross-country runner Reid Coolsaet was selected as the Canadian Interuniversity Sport male athlete of the week.

Coolsaet established a new 10-kilometre course record of 31:34 last weekend at the opening of his cross-country season at the Western Ontario International, a meet that serves as a preview to the OUA Championships. The previous record was held for almost a decade by former Olympian Peter Fonseca.

Coolsaet of Hamilton, Ont., battled for the entire race with national cross-country team member Scott Simpson of Dalhousie University, edging him by 1/100th of a second at the finish line.

Coolsaet will get a chance to make it two in a row on Oct. 12, when he travels south of the border to compete in the Penn State Invitational.
