Political commentator Judy Rebick to speak at U of G

Judy Rebick, renowned political commentator, writer and media personality, will speak to University of Guelph students and community members Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 1200 of the Thornbrough Building. The event is free for U of G students, $5 for students/seniors and $10 for general admission.

Rebick's talk will focus on the role of education and information in active citizenship. In recognition of Citizenship Awareness Month at U of G, she will challenge the audience to be informed and active in citizenship issues on campus and in their community. The annual awareness campaign is coordinated by Citizenship and Leadership Education, a unit in Student Life and Career Services.

Rebick is the host of CBC Newsworld's Straight From the Hip and former co-host of the national debate show Face Off. She is also a nationally known writer. Her latest book, Imagine Democracy, is a provocative look at how Canada can deepen its democratic system by including more participation from ordinary citizens. She is the publisher of rabble.ca, writes columns for CBC Online and Elm Street Magazine and is a regular contributor to the Ottawa Citizen and the Globe and Mail.

Tickets for the event are available at the Central Student Association box office, The Bookshelf and Macondo. The lecture is part of the "Dialogue" speakers' series sponsored by Student Housing Services, the residence programming office and the office of student affairs.
