U of G to host candidates' meeting

The University of Guelph's citizenship and leadership education program is hosting local provincial election candidates in a public meeting Sept. 23 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Room 103 of the University Centre.

Students, faculty, staff and members of the community will have an opportunity to hear the policies and platforms of the Liberal, New Democratic and Green Party candidates.

"This is a great opportunity for students to learn about the platforms held by provincial candidates in Guelph-Wellington," said moderator Tim Mau, a political science professor.

Ben Polley of the Green Party, Liz Sandals of the Liberal Party and James Valcke of the New Democratic Party will have the opportunity to present their platforms and answer audience questions. Progressive Conservative Party candidate Brenda Elliott is unable to attend, and Family Coalition Party candidate Alan John McDonald's participation has yet to be confirmed.

Participants will also receive information on local polling station locations and enumeration procedures for students whose family home is not in a Guelph/Wellington riding.

The University has an official Election Campaigning Policy that establishes guidelines for campaigning on campus and is available online.
