Scottish Family History Day to be held at U of Guelph-Humber
The University of Guelph’s Scottish studies program is hosting its annual Scottish Family History Day April 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 127 of the University of Guelph-Humber building, 205 Humber College Boulevard in Toronto.
“Scottish Family History Day is designed to provide a firm grounding in the basics - how to access Scottish records locally and search efficiently,” said Kevin James, head of Scottish studies.
Jane MacNamara, a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society and a leading authority on sources and methods in family history research, will lead two information sessions. Her first talk will focus on 19th and 20th century census records and civil registration. The types and terminologies of older parish records will be the focus of the second session.
“This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and get tips about family history sources from an expert in the field,” said James. “It can only enrich your studies.”
MacNamara, an expert in family history research, has been recognized for her skills in researching ancestors from the United Kingdom. She is the founding member of Friends of Archives of Ontario and originated Genealogy Summer Camps in Toronto. Her own roots can be traced to England, Scotland and Ireland.
