Composting in your Office

About the program

We provide your office with an indoor collection bin and sorting/promotional posters. Staff in your area are responsible for emptying the indoor bin into one of our many outdoor backyard collection bins, which can be found on this interactive map [1]. If there isn't already an outdoor bin near your office, we will set one up and maintain it year-round by aerating the compost and mixing in dry materials. Generally speaking, grain products, fruits and vegetables, plant clippings, eggshells, coffee grounds, and tea bags can all go in a backyard composter.  Be sure to chop, break or crush whole produce such as citrus, pumpkins, squash, and apples. You can refer to the poster below as a general guide.

Check out our posters and sorting guides [2] for on-campus waste and compost, or explore our Waste Wizard web app [3] to learn what goes where.
