Audience: All Staff, Faculty, and Leaders

The SCARF tool was developed by David Rock, the director of the NeuroLeadership Institute and author of Your Brain at Work. The tool provides valuable insights into what motivates us and others and the implications for how we collaborate, influence each other, and respond to change.

In this session, we will share highlights from Rock’s research and practical application of the SCARF tool that can help you plan, implement, solve problems, and evaluate your approach to working with and/or leading others. The key benefit of applying this tool is an improved capacity to understand and ultimately modify your own and other people’s behaviour in the workplace.

What Participants Will Learn:

  • Understanding our own neurobiology—how we are wired and the deeply social nature of the brain.

  • The five domains of human social experience (motivational drivers) in the brain.

  • Practical ideas for relating and connecting with people in a way that offers respect and understanding, enhances willingness to collaborate, engage creatively, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Facilitator:

Olja Zubic, Senior Consultant, HR Learning & Organizational Development, University of Guelph
