This WSIB approved one day course delivers Emergency First Aid (based Canadian Red Cross program) and adult / child / infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level C and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The use of Automated External Defibrillators will be reviewed and practiced with a training unit.
First aid topics covered include:
- Primary and secondary assessment
- Severe bleeding – wounds, lacerations
- Serious injury recognition and Immobilization (e.g. head, neck, back, chest, abdomen)
- Medical conditions – heart attack, stroke, diabetes, seizures, allergies
- Practice and relevant scenarios
- As time permits, any of the following:
- Heat/cold related conditions
- Burns
- Puncture wounds
- Poisoning
Who should attend:
Any University of Guelph personnel. Emergency first aiders provide departmental back up to first aiders at the Guelph campus’s designated first aid stations: Occupational Health Services and Wellness, Student Health Services and Campus Security Services personnel (Police and Fire).
Course includes: Emergency First Aid certificate valid for 3 years, renewal is recommended every 2 years.
Cost: This course is offered free of charge to all full-time permanent University of Guelph employees. The cost for others, including undergrads, graduate students and non- university personnel is posted within the course information.
