    Education and Employment Background

    Dr. Gary Umphrey received his PhD from Carleton University. He has taught at several major Ontario universities including Carleton University and the University of Western Ontario. Umphrey joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph in 2001 where he is now an Associate Professor.

    Research Themes

    Umphrey has a PhD in biology, with expertise in statistics, particularly in the areas of Biodiversity conservation, Biodiversity statistics, Biostatistics, Myrmecostatistics, and Systematics. He and his students explore experimental design (bias in estimates from aliased designs, mixed full and fractional designs) and spatial point processes (as they relate to estimation of species distribution).
