Jess Haines

Jess Haines, PhD, MHSc, RD is a Professor in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph. For her research, Dr. Haines received the 2020 Danone International Prize for Alimentation and was named as a member of the Royal Society of Canada College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists.

Along with an interdisciplinary team of colleagues at the University of Guelph, Dr. Haines is currently testing interventions designed to promote sustainable healthy eating among families.

Dr. Haines is also leading a project funded by Public Health Agency of Canada focused on co-designing actions to improve food access with members of the Onward Willow neighbourhood.

Dr. Haines is the Co-Director of the Guelph Family Health Study a family-based cohort study designed to identify early life risk factors of obesity and chronic disease and to test family-based strategies to support healthful behaviours early in life.

She is the Co-Principal Investigator of Father & Families, an NIH-funded study to examine parental influence on children’s health behaviours.

Dr. Haines is the also the Director of the Parent-Child Feeding Laboratory, funded through the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. The overarching goal of the laboratory research is to identify how parent-child feeding interactions influence child’s eating behaviours.
