The PhD in Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph prepares students to become independent researchers and leaders who seek to understand when, where, why, and how people get or don't get the nutrition they need to survive and thrive, and how those factors impact health at the individual, group, and population levels. Offered through the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, the PhD provides an interdisciplinary, research-intensive environment where students collaborate with accomplished faculty members conducting applied research across public health, community, clinical, and laboratory settings. Students develop the expertise needed to address complex nutrition challenges through innovative, evidence-based research.

Program Format and Courses for Applied Human Nutrition
The PhD in Applied Human Nutrition is a research-intensive doctoral program that combines advanced scholarly training with independent research. Students work with their advisory committee to develop an individualized program of study tailored to their research interests and career goals. The program begins in September and is typically completed over twelve consecutive semesters. A qualifying examination and doctoral thesis are required.
