Become a Leader in Sport and Event Management
Engage in Interdisciplinary Sport Studies
Through commerce courses in marketing, accounting, economics, human resource management and strategy, students in Sport and Event Management will develop knowledge of key sport aspects, including sponsorship, media, event hosting, stakeholder engagement and organizational leadership.
Go Beyond the Classroom
Courses in the Sport and Event Management major extend beyond the traditional lecture-based format to include community-based group projects, guest lecturers, in-class simulations and case-based learning to help pair academic expertise and theory with industry experience.
Build Your Network
Connect with the Guelph Sports Management Association student group, which hosts an annual job fair where students can network with industry employers, as well as Lang’s International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership advisory board to delve into today’s sport world as it relates to curriculum.
Why Sport and Event Management?
Building on a strong foundation of commerce courses in marketing, accounting, economics, human resource management and strategy, students in Sport and Event Management will develop depth of knowledge in key aspects of sport, including sponsorship, media, event hosting, stakeholder engagement and organizational leadership.
Courses extend beyond that of the classroom into in-field experience, guest lecturers, and connection with the Guelph Sports Management Association and Lang’s International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership.
Students in the Sport and Event Management SPMT program may also be interested in studying Management, Economics and Finance, Marketing Management, or select from our other majors.
Gain Valuable Experience Through Co-op
Our Sport and Event Management co-op provides over 20 months of real-world co-op experience, designed to facilitate the transition of students from academic studies to a professional career improving students’ job search skills, work performance and networking abilities, and boosting resume experience.
Co-op experiences can include:
- Supporting the hosting of a national championship.
- Event marketing for professional sports teams.
- Measuring the economic, environmental and social impact of sports and events.
