OPIRG Guelph

OPIRG-G (Ontario Public Interest Research Group - Guelph) is a chapter of a provincial network of research, popular education, and action organizations. OPIRG-G works on a variety of environmental and social issues acting as a bridge between campus and community. Their projects include co-founding the Guelph Roundtable on Environment and Economy, the Speed River Cleanup and Rehabilitation Project, and coordinating Environment Week in Guelph. Working groups of OPIRG raise awareness of such issues as Indonesia'a illegal occupation of East Timor, James Bay II, and Latin American issues. OPIRG-G maintains an alternative resource centre and will help students apply their course work to community projects. Core funding (supplemented by grants) is provided by a $4.45 fee per semester paid by each full-time graduate and undergraduate student. The fee is refundable for the first fifteen days of the semester. OPIRG-G (extension 2129 or 824-2091) is located at 1 Trent Lane on the University Campus.
