Drama

Department of Drama, College of Arts

The Drama program is a component of a liberal education, and is dedicated to the integrated study of both academic and practical applications of drama and theatre. It offers introductory and advanced courses in dramatic literature, theatre history, criticism and theory, together with directing, acting, design and technical theatre in both general and honours programs.

NOTE: A maximum of 4 Directed Readings or Special Studies Courses (35-341 35-342 35-360 35-361 35-408) is allowed in the honours program major. A maximum of 2 such courses are allowed in honours program minor or the general program area of concentration. Students will normally be permitted to take only 1 Directed Readings and Special Studies course per semester.

Certain approved Dramatic Literature courses from other departments may be counted as Drama equivalents in the honours program major or general program area of concentration. A list of approved courses may be obtained from the Drama Department.

NOTE: In connection with 35-100, students are required as part of the course to attend various specified theatre performances in cities within reach, such as Toronto, Stratford, Niagara on the Lake or London. A special fee is charged for travel to these performances and students will be notified during the first week of classes of the amount of this fee and the dates of the performances

General Program Area of Concentration

A minimum of 10 Drama courses is required as follows:
35-100, 35-105, 35-208 , 35-222, 35-230
and at least 5 additional Drama courses.

Honours Program Major

35-100, 35-105, 35-208 , 35-222, 35-230;
and at least 1 of 35-430, 35-431, 35-342, 35-433, 35-434.
At least 3 Drama courses must be at the 400 level.

It is strongly recommended that students in the major program include either 35-3021/2 or 35-3331/2 or both 35-332 35-355and either 35-3211/2 or at least 2 of 35-308 35-322 35-370.

Honours Program Minor

A minimum of 10 Drama courses is required, including :
35-100, 35-105, 35-208, 35-222, 35-230;
and at least 2 other Drama courses at the 300 level or above

It is strongly recommended that students in the minor program include either35-3021/2 or 35-3331/2 or at least 1 of 35-332 35-355; and either 35-2111/2 or at least 1 of 35-308,35-322 35-370.
