International Development

Interdisciplinary Program

Academic Advisor: ext 6175, Room 045 MacKinnon Building

The International Development program is intended to provide students with an opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary and comparative studies of long-term change and international inequality.

A broad coverage of the process of international development, from the perspectives of history and social science, forms the basis for more in-depth study on such topics as economic growth, the biophysical environment, women, agriculture and rural life, politics, administration and the Latin American region.

The primary participating departments are Economics, Geography, Political Studies, and Sociology and Anthropology.

Honours Program Major

A minimum of 26 courses is required, including:

Fourteen core courses and one of six areas of emphasis. The areas are: Economic Growth and Development, Women in the Development Process, Rural and Agricultural Development, Biophysical Environment and Development, Latin American Studies and Political Development and Administrative Change. Students must select their area of emphasis by the end of the 4th semester of university study.
