V--International Study
There are various exchange programs available to undergraduate students who wish to study at an institution located in a different country for varying periods of time. For regulations on exchange programs, refer to Section VIII--Undergraduate Degree Regulations and Procedures. The following exchange programs are currently available to undergraduate students. There are additional exchange opportunities under consideration that are not outlined in this section. Details can be ascertained through the appropriate program counsellors or by contacting the Centre for International Programs.
Located about 25km. south of Oslo, Aas is home to the Agricultural University of Norway. This exchange program is open to Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students who have maintained a minimum of 75% average. For more information, consult the exchange coordinator for the BLA program.
The exchange program with the University of Aberdeen, Scotland is open to students with a variety of academic interests in the arts, humanities, basic sciences, social sciences, and professional fields. The objective of the exchange is to increase students understanding of Scottish culture and to improve educational offerings through expanding the pool of teachers, students, and facilities. The exchange will offer a selection of courses from the full range of programs offered at each institution and will be open to both Graduate and Undergraduate students. The exchange program with the University of Adelaide in Australia is open to students from a variety of academic programs, including the Humanities, Engineering, Social Science and Science. However, the program is particularly suited to Environmental Science and Agriculture students. Students must have completed at least three semester and have maintained a "B" average. Students interested in studying at one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious universities should contact Jill Johnson, Department of Environmental Science.
Students in the B.Sc. Food Science Specialized Honours program are eligible to spend 1 or 2 semesters in France at any of the participating universities of the AGORAL network, which include ENSIA (Massy), ENSBANA (Dijon), ENSAIA (Nancy), and ENITIAA (Nantes). This exchange will be most suited to students entering their third or fourth year. Fluency in french is required. For further details, consult with the departmental advisor in Food Science.
The universities of Ontario offer 50 students each year the opportunity to study at a university in Ontario's sister province of Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. The program is open to students in all fields. Students who are selected must enrol in a full time course of study at a Baden Wurttemberg university. Located in Vienna, Austria, this University offers an exchange program for those interested in Agriculture, Forestry or natural resources. BOKU is a scenic university which includes an experimental farm and a horticultural research garden. For more information, contact Peter Stonehouse, Agricultural Economics and business.
Students from Semester 2, OVC, may apply to participate in an exchange program with the School of Veterinary Science, University of Bristol. Up to 3 students per year will be chosen to attend for the 3rd semester. The exchange involves a total of 6 credits. Further information can be obtained from the coordinator of the elective/externship programs.
Students in Landscape Architecture, Humanities, Engineering, Social Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science and Family Studies may apply to participate in an exchange program with the University of Canberra, Australia. Up to 5 students per year will be chosen to attend for the equivalent of 2 semesters for a maximum of 8 credits. For more details, contact the Centre for International Programs.
The Universita' Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is one of the leading teaching and research universities in Italy. Programs offered include Business and Banking, Economics, Law Humanities, Art History, Natural Science, Medicine, and Agricultural Sciences. The exchange is open to all Guelph students. The Catholic University is part of the Erasmus program, the exchange program within the European Union, so that Canadian students are normally studying side by side with other non-Italian students. Language of instruction is Italian. Past experience shows that a minimum knowledge of Italian or fluency in either French or Spanish is sufficient to overcome the practical language problems. Students interested in this exciting opportunity should contact the exchange coordinator Prof. F. Braga at least 1 semester before the desired departure date.
An exchange agreement between the Royal Agricultural College, England and the Ontario Agricultural College, of the University of Guelph provides an opportunity for students in agriculture to participate in an exchange program of 1 or 2 semesters. The objective of the program is to provide students with an opportunity to understand production practices in a variety of climates and, for Guelph students, to have gained exposure to the Economics Community, international trade and agricultural commodities, and other related matters. Students in any area of agricultural science or agricultural business are eligible for this exchange program; normally students are in semesters 5, 6, or 7 at the time of their study at RAC. This exchange/study abroad program, open to students from several degree programs, provides opportunities for Guelph students to spend a semester in partner universities in 11 countries and 2 regions of the Commonwealth. Standing for Commonwealth Universities Study Abroad Consortium, CUSAC is designed primarily to permit Guelph students to study in a university in a tropical Commonwealth country. Situated on Australia's west coast, Curtin University will appeal especially to Agriculture, Science, Environmental Science, and Social Science students. The city of Perth will be your home for one semester or one year if you participate in this exchange program. Exchange is available to University of Guelph students, particularly those in Environmental Science, Social Science, and the Humanities. One semester or one year programs are offered. The exchange program with the University of Hohenheim, Germany is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of political/business studies, agricultural, biological, and nutritional sciences. The objective of the exchange is to expand educational and research offerings at both universities. working knowledge in German is required, however, the excellent computerized language centre offers a variety of German courses for foreigners. This exchange program offers University of Guelph students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Iceland's unique ecology, geography and culture while studying at one of four academic institutions. The exchange program at Keele University is open to undergraduate students from all academic programs but would be of particular interest to students specializing in Canadian and Postcolonial studies. Further information is available from the Centre for International Programs.
The program is designed to encourage a greater understanding of the culture and educational systems of Ontario and Baden-Wurttemberg amongst the students at Guelph and Konstanz. The exchange program is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in all areas of study. Student must be able to demonstrate a sufficient competence in the German language, and an appropriate level of study in their chosen area. Students who are selected to take part in the exchange program are required to enrol in a full-time course of study in Konstanz. For further information, contact Prof. John L. This program has an emphasis in Political Science and is particularly suited to students in the European Studies Program. This program is mainly open to students in Agriculture, Environmental Science Resource Management, and Landscape Architecture. Interested students should have at least a "B" average and may contact the OAC Dean's Office or the exchange program coordinator for Landscape Architecture.

Massey University offers courses to University of Guelph students in Agricultural Business and Environmental Science. The program is also open to students in various other disciplines depending on their course requirements. For more information, contact the OAC Dean's Office.
The Michigan State exchange is open to Food Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Business or Resource Management students. You may wish to go for one semester or one year. Contact Prof. G.M. Jenkinson, OAC Dean's Office.
The Muresk Institute of Agriculture of Curtin University, Western Australia, provides an opportunity for students in agricultural business or agricultural economics to spend 1 or 2 semesters (February to July and July to November). The Muresk Institute specializes in courses in farm management, production economics and agricultural business management at a practical level. Students in other areas of agricultural science are eligible to participate in this program should they wish 1 or 2 semesters of courses concentrating in farm management and production economics. Hotel and Food Administration students who have successfully completed ten courses are eligible to apply for participation in an exchange program at this university in England. Less than three hours from Paris by train, the city of Grenoble is home to Pierre Mendes University with an enrollment of 20,000 students. The university concentrates on the social sciences and this program may be of particular interest to European Studies students.
This exchange between the University of Plymouth, England and the University of Guelph is designed to facilitate the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students to provide opportunities for research and for conducting at least some of their programs abroad. Students on the exchange will primarily be involved in environmental programs; however, it will not be restricted to narrowly defined fields and depending upon the availability of resources, participation will be open to all interested members of both institutions. The Rhone-Alpes/Ontario Exchange Program is intended to foster relations between the 2 participating regions and takes the form of an exchange of about 25 undergraduate students (of which the University of Guelph quota is usually 2 or 3, from any program) in each direction for a calendar year. Provincial government support is provided to offset some of the costs of relocation, and course credits towards a Guelph degree can usually be arranged for all courses studied at the host institution. Applications are considered on an annual basis and are due in the Fall semester; details of application procedures (which include a test of a student's fluency in French) are announced well in advance of the mid-December deadline.

This exchange agreement between the University of Stirling, Scotland and the University of Guelph is designed to facilitate international academic exchange between the 2 institutions. There will be an opportunity for undergraduate and post-graduate students whose studies include an emphasis in the area of the environment. However, the focus will not be limited to this narrow field. The exchange will annually provide 5 students with the opportunity to attend the host institution. This agreement is between the University of Strathclyde, Scotland and the University of Guelph and allows for up to 4 students to transfer per year, 2 from the University of Guelph and 2 from the University of Strathclyde.
