Bachelor of Landscape Architecture

Entrance Scholarships

OAC Alumni Foundation Entrance Scholarships

The award will be made in 2 instalments of $1,200 payable after registration in each of the 1st, and 3rd semester levels. To maintain the scholarship, a recipient must continue with satisfactory academic standing in a degree program in the Ontario Agricultural College. Apply to the OAC Dean's Office, Johnston Hall, by September 30.

Qualifications: OAC students entering the B.A., B.Comm., B.L.A., B.Sc., B.Sc.(Agr.), or B.Sc.(Env.) programs who have an admission average in excess of 80%. Participation in extracurricular activities, community activities and demonstrated leadership skills will also be considered.
Amount: Five awards of $2,400

Entrance ACCESS Awards

Fred Hindle Bursary

Awarded in memory of Fred Hindle, OAC '38, a long-time generous supporter of his Alma Mater, who at the time of his death, wanted future students to have the same opportunity for an education as he had received. This award is paid in $1,500 instalments in each of the four years of the student's program, dependent on continued demonstration of financial need and successful completion of study to advance into the next year. This bursary is awarded with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: An entering OAC degree student who has demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: One award of $6,000 ($1,500 annually for 4 years)

Blackburn Scholarship

In commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of the Ontario Agricultural College, Dr.D.J. Blackburn, a retired faculty member in Rural Extension Studies and former Director of the Associate Diploma Program has established this scholarship. Apply by letter citing athletic contributions to the OAC Awards Committee by April 1.

Qualifications: OAC degree or diploma student who has participated in intercollegiate athletics and maintained a minimum cumulative average of 70% while registered at Guelph. Athletic excellence and leadership will be used to determine the recipient.
Amount: One award of $500

Victor Chanasyk Medal

The decision will be based on the recommendation of the faculty in the School of Landscape Architecture. Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Graduating Bachelor of Landscape Architecture student who, in the view of the faculty, is deemed to be the most promising professional practitioner.
Amount: One award of a medal

Class of 1905 Scholarship

Established by the graduating class of 1905. Apply to Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed the 6th semester in a major in an OAC department and is considered to be the most outstanding student in the class and who, through activity in all branches of College life, as well as proficiency in scholarship during the program, has done most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 6
Amount: One award of $300

Class of '51 OAC Leadership Awards

Established by Year '51 OAC, on the occasion of its 45th anniversary. At the discretion of the OAC Awards Committee students may be selected before graduation. Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Students graduating from the degree program in a major in an OAC department who have a 70% standing in the final year of study and who have demonstrated leadership in the College or University extracurricular activities.
Semester: 8
Amount: Up to four awards of $1,000

Class 1955 OAC Scholarships

Offered by the OAC Class of 1955. Apply to Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Outstanding OAC degree student at the conclusion of semester 6. The recipient will have made an outstanding contribution to college life through academic proficiency and participation in extracurricular activities and can be considered to have done the most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 4
Amount: Two awards of $2,000

Class '67 OAC Centennial Scholarship

Offered by the Class of '67 OAC. Apply to Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student majoring in an OAC department who through activity in all branches of college life as well as scholastic achievement has made an outstanding contribution to the University.
Semester: 6
Amount: One award of $800

Class of '76 Graduation Prize

This prize is not tenable with the Charles McGowan or the Beth Duncan Gold Medalist. Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Outstanding graduating student majoring in an OAC department who has been active in OAC student activities while maintaining a minimum of 70% standing.
Semester: 8
Amount: One award of $100

CSLA Undergraduate Medal

Offered by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects. Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Student graduating from the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program who has maintained a high academic standing and contributed to the School and the profession.
Semester: 8
Amount: One award of a silver medal

DMG Scholarship

Established by DMG Landscape Architects, Burnaby, B.C.Application not necessary.

Qualifications: B.L.A. student who has completed semester 4 with a minimum 75% cumulative average and demonstrated outstanding ability in landscape design.
Amount: One award of $1,000

Howard B. Dunnington Grubb Scholarships

Offered by the Sheridan Nurseries. Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 6 in the Landscape Architecture program. Students with a minimum of 70% standing and outstanding design ability are eligible.
Semester: 6
Amount: Two awards of $750

Garden Club of Toronto Scholarship

Apply to Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 of the program in Landscape Architecture. The recipient will have high academic standing and exhibit a strong interest in ornamental plant materials.
Semester: 6
Amount: One award of $1,000

Gwen Karr Memorial Bursary

Mr. T.K.C. Karr, OAC '32, has provided an endowment fund to assist students in a degree or diploma program of the Ontario Agricultural College. They are distributed at the discretion of the University Bursary Committee. Enquiries should be made at Student Financial Services by October 1.

Qualifications: OAC students with demonstrated financial need.

Landscape Architecture Alumni Scholarships

Provided by the Alumni of the School of Landscape Architecture. Students, faculty or alumni may nominate eligible students to the School of Landscape Architecture by October 30.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the BLA program who have just completed either semester 2 or 6. The recipient(s) will be selected on the basis of academic performance and participation and leadership in extracurricular activities.
Semester: 2 or 6
Amount: Up to three awards of $1,000

Massey Fund Travel Scholarships

Travel scholarships available from the Massey Fund. Not tenable with other awards that support travel costs. Apply by letter outlining the study abroad/exchange program and travel costs to the OAC Dean's Office by April 15.

Qualifications: OAC undergraduate students who are participating in an approved study abroad or exchange program outside Canada. Academic standing in the last two full-time semesters or equivalent will be used to determine recipients.
Amount: Up to $750

OAC '55 Scholarships

Provided by the class of OAC '55. Apply to Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Students who are registered in any OAC degree program or students enrolled in the B.Sc.(Eng.) program and have completed semester 4. Recipients will have made an outstanding contribution to College life through academic proficiency and participation in extracurricular activities and can be considered to have done the most for the College, for fellow students and in their personal development. Recipients must have a 70% minimum cumulative average.
Amount: Two awards of $2,000

OAC Alumni Foundation Leadership Awards

Apply to Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: OAC degree students (agricultural science, environmental science, agricultural business, landscape architecture, science) who have completed four full-time semesters or equivalent with a cumulative average of at least 70%. Students should include with their application a statement of their accomplishments during their first four semesters in the area of personal development and list their leadership development activities.
Amount: Five awards of $1,000

OAC Centennial Graduate Fellowships

The Ontario Agricultural College celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1974. Many organizations and companies associated with agricultural industry provided funds in conjunction with the Centennial activities. These fellowships have been established in perpetuity as a permanent commemoration of the Centennial of the College. Apply to Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Students graduating from a degree program administered by the Ontario Agricultural College and who plan to pursue graduate studies in any department or school of the Ontario Agricultural College in the year of baccalaureate graduation are eligible for these fellowships. The fellowships will be based on academic achievement in semesters 7 and 8, as well as participation in extracurricular activities throughout the student's university career.

Amount: Two awards of $2,200

OAC Students' Federation Medal
Qualifications: Graduating student in an undergraduate degree program majoring in an OAC department who has been an outstanding leader in student activities at the College level throughout his or her University career.
Semester: 8
Amount: One award of a medal

Ontario Association of Landscape Architects Scholarship

Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 5 of the B.L.A. program. The award is based on academic achievement, performance in design studio and leadership qualities.
Semester: 5
Amount: One award of $750

C.M. Switzer Scholarships

One to a student who has completed semester 2 of the Diploma in Agriculture program and one to a student who has completed semester 4 of a degree program in OAC. Application not necessary.

Qualifications: Recipients will have a minimum of 70% standing and have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability in OAC student organizations, class executives and College Royal.
Semester: 4
Amount: Two awards of $2,000

Class of OAC '33 Bursaries

Established by the class of OAC'33 on the occasion of their 65th Anniversary, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: Students with demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Up to three awards of $500

Class of OAC '36 Bursaries

Established by the Class of OAC '36 with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: A OAC degree student enrolled in any degree program who has demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Two awards of $500

OAC'38 Lloyd Minshall Bursaries

Established by OAC '38 Alumni, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program, to recognize the many contibutions of Lloyd Minshall to his classmates and to OAC. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: OAC undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need in semesters 5, 6, 7 or 8 and OAC graduate students are eligible to apply. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Seven awards of $1,000

OAC '47 Travel Bursaries

Provided by OAC '47 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: OAC undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need and who are participating in a study abroad program for academic credit at an approved institution. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Three awards of up to $600

OAC '55 Access Bursaries

Provided by the class of OAC '55 with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: Students at any semester level in an OAC degree prorgram or students enrolled in the B.Sc.(Eng.) program with demonstrated financial need and a 60% minimum cumulative average. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Up to eight awards of $500

OAC '57 Bursaries

Provided by the Class of OAC '57 with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: OAC undergraduate degree students with demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Five awards of $1,000

Reid's Heritage Homes Bursaries in Landscape Architecture

Established by Reid's Heritage Homes with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program to assist students continue their studies as full-time students. Distributed in the Winter semester. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: Full-time students in the B.L.A. or M.L.A. program with demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Two awards of $1,500

T.K. Warley Bursaries

Established by OAC Alumni Foundation, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program, to recognize Professor T.K. Warley's significant contribution to the OAC Alumni Foundation and to students through teaching and promotion/development of "Experience Agriculture". A degree student may receive this bursary twice. Apply by letter stating qualifications with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by October 1. ACCESS AWARD

Qualifications: Students with demonstrated financial need who are in semester 5 to 8 of any degree program within OAC. A minimum 65% is required, as is participation in student activities, governance, and/or college affairs. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF Award.
Amount: Three bursaries of $500

In-course Bursaries

Robb Travel Grant

Provided by the estate of Martha Robb, Paris, Ontario, in recognition of her love of agriculture. Apply to the Dean, OAC by April 15.

Qualifications: OAC students who are attending another university on a Letter of Permission.
Amount: A number of travel bursaries of 80% of the travel costs will be covered up to $750 per student).
