Entrance Scholarships - B.Comm.

L.A. Beattie & J.C. Beattie Memorial Scholarship

The estate of Jessie L. Beattie has established a scholarship in memory of Lillie Ann Beattie and Jeannie Cockburn Beattie. The scholarship is awarded in alternating years in the B.A.Sc. and B.Comm. programs. Awarded in the B.Comm. even-numbered years; awarded in the B.A.Sc. program in odd-numbered years. Qualification(s): Student entering full-time studies in the B.A.Sc. program or the Hotel and Food Administration, Housing and Real Estate or Marketing Management majors in the B.Comm. program and who achieved the highest mark in English during the final year of high school. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to students from rural areas.

Amount: One award of $300

Clara E. Elliott Entrance Scholarships

Provided by the estate of Clara E. Elliott, MAC '07. This scholarship is payable in 4 annual instalments of $2,000. To maintain the award for the second year of study, the recipients must have at least a 77% average and continue to demonstrate the qualities on which the award was given. To maintain the scholarship into the 3rd and 4th years, the recipient must have at least an 80% average in the prior year and continue to demonstrate the qualities on which the award was given. Eligible students admitted to semester 1 will be invited to submit an application. [E0095]

Qualification(s): Students entering semester 1 of the B.A.Sc. program or the Hotel and Food Administration, Housing and Real Estate Management or Marketing Management majors of the B.Comm. program with at least an 80% entrance average. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and evidence of participation in leadership roles as indicated by their application material and reference letters from teachers.

Amount: One award of $8,000 ($2,000 annually for 4 years)

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Entrance Scholarships

Established by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to encourage high quality students to consider a career in the hotel, food and tourism industry. All entering students can apply for consideration by March 15 to Student Financial Services. Applications must include one letter of reference from a current or previous employer in the hotel, food and tourism industry or, alternatively, someone who can speak to their interest, a completed Need Assessment Form, and a covering letter from the applicant that includes a statement of interest in the industry. Qualification(s): Students entering the B.Comm. program HAFA or Tourism Management major each Fall semester. Previous academic performance, interest in the industry and financial need will all be factors considered in the selection process. Winners will be notified by May each year.

Amount: Three awards of $5,000

Amos & William Lowe Memorial Scholarship

Endowed by the late William B. Lowe of Fort Francis, Ontario. Preference will be given first to eligible students from the district of Rainy River, then from the district of Kenora or Thunder Bay, and finally from the remaining districts of Northern Ontario. Application not required. E0158]

Qualification(s): Student entering any of the undergraduate degree programs of the Ontario Agricultural College.

Amount: Two awards of $1,250 paid in two installments of $625

Mac-FACS Alumni Association Centennial Scholarship

Established by the Mac-FACS Alumni Association. The winner will be selected from the pool of eligible students not awarded the Clara E. Elliott Education or Entrance Scholarships. [E0162]

Qualification(s): This scholarship is offered to students entering the B.A.Sc. program or the Marketing Management or Housing and Real Estate Management majors of the B.Comm. program with high academic standing and who have shown leadership in community-based volunteer activities. Students who have applied to the above programs will be invited to submit an application.

Amount: One award of approximately $300

Mac-FACS Alumni Entrance Scholarships

Three scholarships to be awarded in the Fall semester. Application not required. [E0167]

Qualification(s): Students in the B.A.Sc. program or the Housing and Real Estate Management or Marketing Management majors of the B.Comm. program

Amount: One award of $1,000 and two of $500

Entrance Access Awards - B.Comm.

Gord Bennett Memorial and O.A.C. '43 Class Bursary

The family and friends of R. Gordon Bennett, O.A.C. '43, a former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program, have created this bursary. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. ACCESS AWARD [E3515]

Qualification(s): O.A.C. student with demonstrated financial need entering the Diploma, B.Sc.(Agr.), or B.Comm., Agricultural Business major, programs. Preference will be given to students whose primary family occupation is farming. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Fred Hindle Bursary

Awarded in memory of Fred Hindle, O.A.C. '38, a long-time generous supporter of his Alma Mater, who at the time of his death, wanted future students to have the same opportunity for an education as he had received. This bursary is awarded with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. This bursary is dependent on continued demonstration of financial need and successful completion of study to advance into the next year. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. ACCESS AWARD [E3500]

Qualification(s): An entering O.A.C. degree student who has demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Robert, Louis and Helen Shaw Memorial Degree Scholarships

Established by the Shaw Scholarship Committee with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter, including a summary of local agricultural activities and a completed Need Assessment Form, to Student Financial Services by September 30. ACCESS AWARD [E4520]

Qualification(s): Students registered in the B.A.SC, B.Comm. in Agricultural Business, B.Sc. (Agr.) or D.V.M. programs studying agriculture, horticulture, equine studies, food and nutrition or veterinary sciences with demonstrated financial need, a 70% cumulative average and involvement in local agricultural activities. Preference will be given to first year students from Peterborough County. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: A number of awards of $1,000

Sleeman Brewing Scholarships

Established by the Sleeman Brewing and Malting Company, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. One award alternates between a B.Sc. student in the College of Biological Science and the College of Physical and Engineering Science (beginning with C.P.E.S. in 2000/2001); one award is available to a B.Comm. student in Hotel and Food Administration. Selection is by the University Bursary Committee. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. ACCESS AWARD [E4267]

Qualification(s): Full-time entering students registered in the B.Sc. program in the College of Biological Science or the College of Physical and Engineering Science respectively and B.Comm. Hotel and Food Administration students with a minimum average of 80% in the last year of secondary school and demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).
